Re: Who's your nl mvp

    I'd say Jones.

Strange, though. Of course, I am a Giants fan, but just hear me out on this one... I know of everybody's answer already, but I just want to hear your take on it.

MVP... Most Valuable Player... is given to a player that, with him, your team is a contending team, and without him, your team is subpar... regardless of what team you're on, one of the two must be true it seems like. Don't think about any stats right now, just think about intangibles.

It's been said by me and some other guys for the last two years, about why Bonds is always MVP (and has been for the last 4 years): Without Bonds, the Giants are a subpar .500 team.

Well, they've actually exceeded my expectations, for the worse. Without Bonds, they are a .447 team. With him, they are at least .100% higher up... at least.

Now, does that put the Giants in contention for the playoffs? Hell yes. Do you know why? Consider that aside from the Colorado Rockies, the Giants have the worst record against NL West teams in the NL West. If they win some more of those, not only are they higher up past them, but with a .550% win percentage, they are in first place by about 12 games!

Of course, we can't tell how Bonds would be this year because "he's off the juice". However, call me crazy, but if we were to base the MVP on what it's called, and not by stats, would Bonds be a possible candidate?

Again... I know the answer, but I just want to hear your take on it.

Gotta go Andruw as well. It's not just a homer pick, but he deserves it. The Cardinals would still be #1 without Pujols (okay, maybe not)........but Atlanta would probably be dead last without Andruw this year.

              Re: Who's your nl mvp

Andruw has gotten it done when it was severely needed, and really stepped up to the plate when his team was struggling, a sign of not only a superstar, but an MVP as well. It's called Most Valuable Player for a reason, and for the Braves, Andruw has bee their most valuable player. Everyone kindof forgot about Jones, said he was "done" or close to it, and he's just pounded that belief out of everyone who ever said it this season. The most shocking thing to me is that the first month or two of the season he wasn't hitting many homers, and then he just exploded at a time when the Braves desperately needed him to. If Andruw hadn't been the deserving MVP candidate that he is this year, the Braves would be in second or third place right now.

                  Re: Who's your nl mvp

I'm going to go ahead and sound like a homer here, but I give the edge to Pujols. I think Jones will win the award, but to say that Pujols leads in one stat is the wrong argument to make. HR, RBI are the only offensive stats that Jones leads in. Hits (& avg), runs, SB, Ks, BBs, and OPS are all lead by very a large margin by Pujols. Pujols has 32 win shares this year, to Jones' 21.

Neither team would be in first place without their respective player. Jones has played with a lot of rookies, and Pujols has played with a lot of scrubs. Not much has been made nationally about the lineups that LaRussa has put out there this year, but So Taguchi and Yadier Molina have batted cleanup on multiple occasions. These are not the 2004 Cardinals with 3 MVP candidates.

So what it comes down to is two players who are the most important players on their teams, neither of which would play in October if these guys weren't there. Does Andruw deserve the award? Yes. Does Albert? Yes.

I'd give the MVP to the best overall player in the league, regardless of his team's performance. Therefore, I'll take Derrek Lee.

I feel bad for Pujols because he should've won several MVPs by now. His consistent performance year after year is always shunned by some breakthrough player who suddenly goes on to having a monster season. Not that I'm against Derrek Lee or Andruw, in fact, I think Andruw should win it. But Pujols is probably going to be a second to one of those guys.

The race is too close to call right now, especially with an entire month left in the season. There is still a lot of baseball to be played and the NL MVP (AL MVP as well) will be decided in the last two weeks of the season.

using that idea, I go with Pujols.

Going with most valuable, I go with Pujols.

He has the numbers and carries that team which has been decimated with injuries. Jones hits homeruns, because he goes out swinging for one each time while also hacking at other junk, leading to an average around .270. That is not MVP worthy any way you think of it.

umm, if that's your case for why Jones shouldn't win the MVP, then you lose.

oh yeah I forgot that hitting .270 makes you the class of the league now.

Pujols is the better player, hands down.
