Yeah I can't argue Andruw doesn't deserve it because as big of a Cardinals fan as I am I realize he kept them in the NL East race and helped them get on top of the division once again.

So Andruw is my pick for MVP (barring a major fallout in the last month), with Pujols runner up.
    Favorite Teams:
NCAA- University of Illinois Fighting Illini
    NFL- Cleveland Browns
    MLB- St. Louis Cardinals
    NBA- Boston Celtics
    NHL- Chicago Blackhawks

        Re: Who's your nl mvp

Hate to say this to you all but this is a two horse race between Lee and Puljols. Jones hits Home Runs and thats it everyone says the Braves are gonna drop off every year if someone deserves the MVP award on that team it a toss up between Bobby Cox and Leo Mazzone. Andruw Jones has hit around .270 for the year not bad considering he is a power hitter but you gotta look at the other numbers as well. Besides the fact the puljols and Lee are hitting about .70 points higher than jones their OBP is about 100 points higher. Jones is ranked 46 in the National League in OBP both Giles and Furcal have a higher OBP. Jones is also hitting less than .250 with runners in scoring position.

Even if your picking most valuable players based on the fact of how much he has helped his team. Look at Lee without Lee the cubs might have finished dead last in the central this year. Puljols has led an injury plauged cardinals team to the best record in baseball. Just look at the stats and that will tell you all you need to know about the N.L. MVP race.

Besides this little issue of him being the best defensive outfielder of the past forty years.

Has defense ever decided an MVP race I think not.

                How do you know?

                I'm sure it's been a factor.

It SHOULD be a factor if it isn't, but the truth is I don't think it'll hurt a guy like David Ortiz who doesn't even play the field!

But in the case of an Andruw Jones, or an Ozzie Smith, or how about a Johnny Bench (3 of the greatest at their position ever), defense CANNOT be ignored and should help get AJ over as it did for the other 2. Defense is so hard to quantify that you have to be that much better for it to help you. Andruw Jones is that much better, and you'd be foolish to ignore how his glove saves runs when he's not driving them in with the long ball.

I don't know what brand of baseball you watch, but where I'm from your #1 and #2 hitters should have a higher OBP than your #4 hitter.

                    Why, you ask?

Simple. So he can drive them in. It's his job. And he's done it better than anyone else in the league this year.

Jones hits Home Runs and thats it
Quote of the year. Almost as good as "All he does is catch touchdowns".

In a lineup that has featured no real credible power threat except for Jones I find it even more amazing that he has as many HRs and RBIs as he does considering the garbarge he sees at the plate.

Among the leading MVP candidates, Derrek Lee ranks first in the league in on-base/slugging percentage with runners in scoring position. Morgan Ensberg ranks sixth, Albert Pujols seventh, Miguel Cabrera 33rd and Jones 75th. ...
                      Just throwing it out there.

Edit: And to add, Jones has had 30 more AB than Pujols with runners on base this season. In those at bats he has hit .254 and driven in 87 runs. Pujols, in 30 less AB, has hit .321 and driven in 85. So with a little analysis, Jones has obviously not done that job better than anyone in the league this year.

While I see what you're saying, he isn't. He has driven in the most runs, but he hasn't been the best at driving home runs. If a player has 200 hits in 500 at bats, is he better at getting hits than a player who has 190 hits in 450 at bats? I didn't even get into runners in scoring position in my last post. Jones has 45 more at bats with RISP than Pujols this year. What has he gotten out of those 45 extra chances with RISP? 3 more RBIs than Pujols.

Pujols by a mile.....He carried the team while Walker, Sanders, Rolen, and Molina have all missed significant time. Him and Jone shave putup similar power numbers, but Pujols BA is almost 70 points higher, not to mention Pujols is playing for the best team in the league. Pujols and Carpenter will sweep the MVP and Cy Young awards.

Just because he has the most doesn't mean he's the best at it. As noted above you ignore how Pujols has done more with less than Jones. Pujols is a more efficient RBI producer than Jones, which makes him better IMO in teh sense that he is more consistant, has done more with less, and has a higher average with RISP.
