I bet he's throwing at Bonds b/c of their history, I don't think there's any doubt about that.Comment

Re: Official Barry Bonds Thread
Again... shouldn't quite be posting here, but I think that throwing at people, in terms of what is just and what isn't, is just absolutely wrong, especially when kids at the Little League level are watching these games. Believe me... these kinds of things go through their heads.
But, at times, intentional retaliation is always just a message. Retaliation is NOT a headshot, though. Below the waist at all times. I still think he got hit on that one pitch prior... I just don't know.
Anyway, I think that this would have been a much better situation if Springer and Garner actually admitted to intentionally hitting him. How do I know? Well, for one thing, they claim that pitch was a slider. Look at the pitch again, again, and again. And then realize that Russ Springer hasn't ever thrown a 92 MPH slider in his lifetime. That is just inexcusable to try and HIDE the fact that you were throwing at a guy, regardless of the reason. People on this MB want pitchers to take initiative and have the balls to confront Bonds. I feel that Springer didn't do this, and he was not successful in doing his job.
All I know about their history is that Bonds is 1 for 6 lifetime with a home run, strikeout, and 1 HPB prior to last night's incident. I cannot really see of any other "history" that could lead to this. Maybe he's just angry inside, that's all.Last edited by Blzer; 05-17-2006, 11:18 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Official Barry Bonds Thread
I don't see the big deal. Ask Don Drysdale or Bob Gibson what they'd do if someone used body armor at the plate or dug in against them or if someone flipped their bat or watched a HR sail over the fence. Those guys wouldn't even bother throwing below the waist. They'd drill ya right in the earhole with a 98 MPH fastball. If players back then could handle it, surely the body armored guys today can.
IMO throwing at people BELOW THE WAIST is 100% acceptable. I don't like the head hunting, but it has been a staple of the game for years.Comment

It's ridiculous that these guys can basically stand on the plate with no fear of getting hurt and make no effort to get out of the way.Comment
