Re: 2006 All-Star Game thread
Hoffman stinks. He's got all of those saves on a team that is hardly ever in contention when it really matters. Man, he got smoked on three changeups. Couldn't he tell that they were sittin' on that junk? Everyone knows to change location and speed. He had two strikes on Michael Young and leaves that changeup on middle half of the plate in; why in the world wouldn't he waste a pitch? i know Young's a great two strike hitter, but man he just served it up and said, "Thank you, may I have another"
This winner of the ASG has home field advantage during the WS is asinine.

Re: 2006 All-Star Game thread
That was an entertaining All-Star game. And what a finish too. The fact that the NL hasn't won in so long is what's making the All-Star game entertaining as I was watching those last few innings just to see if they could actually hang on and end their misery.Comment

Hoffman is still one of the better closers in the league.Comment

Really! He got beat because he fell in love with that change up. All three hits were off the change up. All three were from the middle of the plate in.
Having pitched in high school as well as AAU and semi-pro ball, I can tell you that even at those inferior levels, they teach you the element of surprise is a pitcher's greatest weapon. Keep the hitters off balance, mix speeds, change locations...etc. He did none of that. He fell in love with that change up and got burned. IMO he is not one of the greatest closers in the game; were he on a real contender and getting those saves, day in day out in the heat of the battle during a pennant race, then he would be a great closer.

...So he's discredited because he had a bad outing in the All-Star Game?Comment
