It was half and half for Arroyo. I didn't hear boos for Narron. Yanks got booed bad and so did Ozzie. Those were the worst from where I was sitting. There were A TON of fans from other areas. Really was neat to see so many different fans and people.

Boos for Arroyo were because he ripped the Pirates after losing to them earlier in the year. He ripped apart the team and lineup and the fans didn't like it much.

Anyhow great game and a great experience. Celebrities to see, packed house, awesome Clemente tribute, playoff atmosphere.....game had it all. I'll write up more tomorrow, but I gotta go to sleep. Gotta get up in 5 hours for work. It was nice the game went fast or I'd probably not get any sleep. Of course, I had to post on OS though. LOL...

I agree. I remember when Hank Blalock hit a homer in the ASG of some dude who had 84 straight saves. Poor guy. No one even remembers the name of that one closer after he messed up his career in the ASG.

Most memorable part of the night for me aside from Michael Young's hit:

Viewing Bronson Arroyo kick it to commercial break while playing an acoustic version of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis along with a random dude playing trumpet(wtf?) next to him. On one hand, Oasis is one of my favorite bands of all time, so seeing one of their songs so randomly was a "whoa, holy ****, look, Oasis!" kind of feeling. On the other hand, the dude singing this classic 90's song reminded me of the token douchetard who sat in his dorm room all day during college wailing away on his acoustic guitar as the girls flocked to his room, utterly mesmerized. A very mixed feeling for me right there, no doubt about it.

^Damn, when my roommate and myself would play guitar in college it seemed to drive women away, not mesmerize them. I guess I attended school at the wrong place.

I will say one more thing on this game. While I go back and forth on this home-field advantage stuff, I do have to give credit to the All-Star game for getting it right these days. The AL has been the better league and as a result they have won the All-Star game ever year since the tie so right now this home-field advantage stuff is working.

                    Re: 2006 All-Star Game thread

Gotta admit, I thoroughly enjoyed Hoffman's choke job.

My apologies if this story sounds like name-dropping, but I thought somebody might get a kick out of it:

My first year at EA (1999), I was lucky enough to be sent to Boston to work the All-Star Fan Fest. Got tickets to the game, the HR Derby (nearly caught a Burnitz HR in the short porch), showed Thome how to play our game, got to bust Harold Reynolds' chops, had a surreal encounter with Bernie Brewer, it was a pretty sweet deal.

One of the perks was an invite to the ESPN/MLBPA All-Star gala. Met a couple HOF'ers (Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers), got to talk to a few players, most of whom were quite friendly. Not Hoffman. He was standing next to Kevin Millwood (who was signing autographs and chatting with people), talking with no one, drink in hand, looking surly, and curtly refusing autograph requests: "Forget it. Not signing tonight." Bear in mind that this shindig was pretty much set up for the sponsors, and everyone else that I saw was very polite. Even Millwood would kind of give him a "WTF?" look when Hoffman would refuse people.

A few hours later, the event was closing, and I was somewhat soused, shuffling back to the shuttlebuses that would take us to our hotel. These two guys were walking beside me, and one asked how I liked the event. I said it was great, all the players were great, except for Hoffman, who was a dink. They both laughed, and one said, "Yeah, that sounds about right." I turned to take a close look at these guys (I hadn't really been paying attention), and noticed it was Jeff Bagwell and Luis Gonzalez I was walking with. Hilarious.

So, who knows, maybe Hoffman was just having a bad night and is really the greatest guy in the world, but I've nursed a semi-grudge against him since that night.
