I believe Ponson was designated for assignment when StL got Jeff Weaver...

Yeah, Ponson got signed straight up I believe. Was it last year he was the hottest thing on the market?

The White Sox should be in the running. He'd be perfect for our bullpen.

I think it was back in '03 when he went to SF. Last year he spent that time in jail I believe.

The Orioles got nothing back either. All the guys they got from the Giants busted out, and quickly.

The O's and Rockies have been in discussions about a trade, with the O's sending Javy Lopez and LaTroy Hawkins to the Rockies. No specific players have been mentioned from the Rockies, but I have to think it's Ryan Shealy. The Rockies don't seem to want Javy though, even though they're about dead last in OPS from the catcher position.

The Mets are interested in Rodrigo Lopez, could probably get someone like Nady or Diaz for him.

I heard that too. The Rockies are playing as good as they ever have and should really look to make a couple of moves. I don't follow the Rockies that closely, but I do get most of their games and would love to see them make a push towards the postseason.

The deal would send Brandon McCarthy and Brian Anderson to SF for Schmidt. Then the ChiSox would deal for a CF (Griffey, Luis Matos, Taveras, Pierre, Brady Clark, Gary Mathews, etc), maybe by trading one of the SP to be bumped out of the rotation, (Garcia, Vazquez, Garland).
Brian Sabean has said he does not intend to trade Jason Schmidt, the Giants are only 3.5 games behind the Padres in he NL West and 1 game behind the Dodgers for the Wild Card. If anything the Giants may try to add pitching at the deadline.

Just a comment on Ponson: He'll last 2 starts in Pinstripes and be booed out of town. I just don't see a guy of his temperment faring well in the Bronx zoo.

According to the New York Daily News the White Sox is looking to trade either Javier Vazquez or Freddy Garcia for some bullpen help. Some of the suitors are the Mets and Phillies. With Pedro Martinez being a health concern they are looking for starting pitching and are willing to give us Duaner Sanchez or Aaron Heilman. I'd personally take Sanchez. They can keep Heilman. Another suitor is the Phillies. They are looking to give us Gordon for one of out pitchers. I'd take that deal. Here is the link:

Mets spoke to the Phils. about Abreu, Lieber, and Gordon.

White sox called the Mets about trading Vazquez or Garcia for relief pitching

Soriano possibly going to the NL Central?

Possibly to the Cubs for Barrett?

Sounds like a bunch of bologna. I don't see why the Phils would want either Garcia or Vasquez. I'd think the Mets would be interested but at the cost of destroying their bullpen? Also seems unlikely.
