Re: To all Mets Haters................
Originally posted by FootballForeverI watch many AL games, I Live in NY, so when the Mets are done playing or even when there playing I go back and forth between the Yankees and Mets, because I love baseball..All the guys who are saying the Mets can't beat an AL team in a 7 game series aren't giving legit reason either, and please don't say pitching, because that would just be silly. As far as the Mets being 6-9 against the AL in interleauge play means nothing, when you playing in a world series it's a whole new Ball game, none of that past stuff matters..Someone just give me a legit reason why they think the Mets would lose in a 7 games series against the AL, and please don't say hitting, because the Mets can go hit for hit with the best of them, and the Mets have more then one clutch hitter on there team this year then most teams in the leauge..
Not for nothing... but I do recall the '86 Mets being the underdogs to the Sox in the WS... & we know how that turned out.. Anything can happen in a 7 game series - heck Bobby Jones of all people 1 hit the Giants in the 2000 playoffsComment

Okay, well... First off the Mets pitching isn't leaps and bounds better than any of the top AL teams pitching. But their hitting can't compare to any of the following AL teams, Boston, New York and Chicago (that offense is insane). Secondly you guys lost a huge BP asset when Duaner went down.
The RS/NYY pitching isn't much far below the Mets. Combined they are 6-3 vs. the Mets. Pedro's stuff works in the NL, it doesn't vs. the big boys in the AL. The White Sox aren't pitching as well as they did last but that's beside the point, they've got a damn strong starting rotation, and a very solid BP. With the pitching borderline a wash between these three teams, their isn't one team the Mets can out hit out of these three. Just simply not going to happen.
Blow for blow vs. any AL team? Really? Pull your head out of the Mets tub of kool aid.Last edited by RoyalBoyle78; 08-11-2006, 01:36 PM.N.Y Mets

Re: To all Mets Haters................
I love how Mets fans think getting manhandled by the Red Sox and Yankees in the last round of interleague play is irrelevant. The fact that the NL is an obviously inferior league is irrelevant and them beating up on an obviously inferior division is irrelevant. But the 1986 World Series is relevant.Comment

[QUOTE=FootballForever]Originally posted by Thrashayour out of your mind if you think the METS can't hit with the best of them, you just said that all the Top AL teams and then METS pitching staff are borderline the same, so how can you say the METS can't hit them if there you there pitching isn't all that great, WOW, take you head out of the Oritz/Manny kool aid, because beyond that, Boston isn't that great on ofense, so please..The Redsox are playing themselves right out of the playoffs, so don't take that out on me..
Did I only mention the Red Sox as a great hitting team? Reading comprehension not a strong suit for you?
The Mets are hitting weaker NL pitching, Red Sox/Yankees/Chi Sox are hitting AL pitching.
Bronson Arroyo was an All Star for the NL this year. Case closed.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. We’re talking about on the biggest stage, in New York, playing out of position and asked to hit fourth for the New York Yankees. I mean, that’s never been done.” - Sheffield on SheffieldComment

So the Mets have the equivalent of Josh Beckett/Pavano/Penny? Not to mention Willis out of the pen. Good to know.“Nobody in the history of the game tried what I just tried. a seven game playoff series is different than a 3 game, part of a 162 game schedule, series (Yankee fans should know - choked BIG TIME in 2004) .. ps- i was only busting chops with the vid...Last edited by nyisles16; 08-11-2006, 01:56 PM.Comment

Re: To all Mets Haters................
"yawn"
Man some of you Mets backers just ask for a blowback reaction when you talk some of the ish that comes out of your mouths. The NL is obviously the weaker of the two leagues and while the Mets are good they'd be mincemeat in a playoff series against most AL teams.
List of teams that could beat the Mets in a 7 game series:
Yanks
BoSox
Blue Jays
White Sox
Tigers
Twins
Angels (a bit of a stretch)
Actually these same teams could probably hold their own against the other division leaders/WC holder in the NL.
That's not to say the NL is full of crap because ANYTHING could happen in a short series but it's generally accepted that the NL is weaker but has slightly more parity.
Personally tho i'd love to see the Mets win it all because i'm a big fan of Carlos Delgado and i'd love to see him have success on the grandest stage of all.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Originally posted by FootballForeveryoiu really think the Yankees were scared of Josh Beckett/Pavano/Penny before the series, I don't think so...
For what it's worth, everyone should've known Beckett was filthy even at that young of an age. I was talking him up all the way through the minors. Penny and Pavano both had good years that year as well.....As did Dontrelle. Even Mark Redman pitched well for them.
That FL team was quite good. I know not many thought they'd beat the Yankees, but they were still a very good team. Derrek Lee, Mike Lowell, Pudge, Castillo and Pierre's speed, Encarnacion, Miguel Cabrera, Willis, Penny, Pavano, Beckett, Looper (who hadn't imploded yet), Urbina etc...Comment
