An offense that is jsut as good as NY, and now actually have a closer for a full year. The rotation will be healthy, but hey whatever you say.

Come on now... you have to understand that the Mets still hate Atlanta for all those years they spent below them in the standings.

The Braves actually had a pretty good offense this year. They scored more runs, had a higher average, OBP, and SLG % then the Mets. The Braves problem wasn't scoring runs. It was a young bullpen, an inconsistent rotation, injuries, and plain bad luck.

Well its good to see the Mets out and about allready. I think the Braves give them a good run for the money next year as long as our players stay healthy we'll be just as good.

I was thinking that. There really wasnt a position besides First Base that the Mets had an all around better hitter and maybe Left Field but Cliff is Mr. Injury.

Wright had better numbers then Chipper, and is better, but Chipper if healthy can contribute the same. LaRoche was amazing. Francouer started slow but did well overall. The only thing the Braves offense was lacking is a true lead off hitter. Other then that, their offense is up there.

Offensively the Braves were prone to slumps, but what team isn't. Overall this team scored enough runs to win almost every night and if we had a decent rotation we make the playoffs.

My dad has been really down on the team ( well for years since he is 58 years old and bitter ) and he thinks they suck like they did in the 80's. Needless to say he is totally wrong. This is a very talented team with a reasonably young lineup sort of similar to the Texas teams of recent years. If we would actually dive into the free agent market and sign a good pitcher or two we could be right back in this thing. Unfortunately the last time we signed a free agent of any worth was Brian Jordan in the 1998 offseason. Everything else has been done through trades that are usually reactions to someone leaving. ( JD Drew, Renteria, Ortiz, Hampton, Hudson)

I forget but did we sign Sheffield or trade for him?

                      Re: To all Mets Haters................

Sheffield was aquired in a trade for Jordan and Odalis Perez.

We were much more active in the 1990's and it should come as no surprise that we went to 5 world Series that decade and 0 since we decided to be cute and ignore the free agent market.

We have never been huge spenders in free agency but we did at least try to make some big moves and the trades we made were usually to add to the team not to fill a hole created because someone left.

In the 1990's we aquired Maddux, Pendleton ( steal at the time) Bream ( his value to the team was worth more than his stats) McGriff, Grissom, Neagle,Galaragga, Weis, and Jordan. Oh yes and Kenny Lofton which turned out to be a terrible trade and to this day I have no idea what J.S. was thinking.

Those are some big names that we either traded for without having to give much up or signed because we actually spent some cash.

In this decade almost every move has been reactionary, and I simply don't think you can build a team like that, especially when the Mets are so agressive and have a good GM and a hungry fanbase.

Adam LaRoche had an amazing year... I wouldn't go as far as to say Delgado was that much better.

The difference between the Mets and Braves came down to the pitching, more specifically the bullpen, which isn't surprising considering teams with good starting staffs and bullpens tend to finish ahead of those who have average to poor staffs.

I think the Mets offense actually did help the pitching though. Reyes was able to ignite the offense in the early innings and gave the Mets early leads which probably helped the pitchers to relax, then again that is just a theory of mine so don't hold me to it if it proves statistically inaccurate.

This next year will be telling for the Braves. Are they on a team on a downward spiral or are they just in transition. They definitely won't be anyone's favorites to win the division so it will be interesting to see how they respond.

If the Braves can get a legitimate leadoff hitter, they'll be trouble.

Not if we don't fix the pitching staff. We lost too many games last year where we score 5 or more runs. That shouldn't happen.
