So, do you think he will break it this year?

With 10 games left to play i think he has a good chance. It would be nice to see him do it this weekend since it is the Padres final homestand. If he can't do it in San Diego the Padres next series is in St.Louis and if he does it there the St.Louis fans will cheer him as if he was one of their own players.

        Re: Trevor Hoffman

If that were to happen, it'd be the second time in consecutive years Hoffman has reached a milestone in St. Louis. Last year he earned his 400th career save there. However, there was little mention of it on ESPN that day.

Hoffman is in the game now attempting save 478.

Edit: There it is, a one-two-three inning and Hoffman is now tied.

2-1 Padres, going to the bottom of the eighth. An insurance run would be nice, but Hoffy may have a chance to save out the last home game of the year and take the record at the same time.

Number 479, I wonder if Lee Smith was able to make it to this game (the Padres, MLB, and Hoffman all invited him over the weekend, but he had something that he couldn't get out of already planned).

That changeup goes a long way helping Hoffy get the record. It's almost amazing how he was almost not a Padre this past offseason. Next up is #500

I say Rivera takes the record midway through the 2010 season.

I can't see Rivera pitching that long. I think he has 2 years left in the tank. I mean the guy has accomplished just about everything a closer can accomplish.

He's also a lock for the HOF.

Rivera pitching til '10? I certainly don't see that. I don't know that it'd take him that long to break it either. All depends on when Hoffman calls it quits.
