Re: Marlins grab the greatest catcher of all time

To put the words "Piazza" and "catcher" in the same sentence is a joke. Please. Great hitter, but pathetic at the most important part of his job. A walk is a double against the Mets because of this bag of nothing behind the plate.

Pudge hit for a signficantly higher average than Bench, was a threat as a base-stealer, and logged more doubles and triples than Bench, and I believe he impacts a game with his arm more than Bench. BUT, I would not deny Bench's greatness, nor his legitimate claim as the best of all time.

Bench and Pudge are No. 1 and No. 1a in my book. Piazza's a good designated hitter in a league that doesn't allow designated hitters.

Pudge is twice the catcher that Piazza is overall! He can run, hit for power, average, run better than any catcher maybe ever, and he knows his pitchers! Piazza might as well play first, that would be great for his defensive understanding of baseball! We know he can catch and that is about all he needs to do at first, pick a ball out of the dirt now and then, he sounds perfect, not like Mo Vaughn is putting up stunning numbers for the Mets anyhow! Yes, Piazza at first and then he could be the best at his position!

only knock on Pudge is he is injury prone. Hopefully that will all be behind him now.

And if you can't throw people out, you shouldn't be a catcher. Having Piazza behind the plate is pretty much allowing anyone to advance one base each at bat. And we won't give him a break because you are claiming he is the best catcher of all time! He is a great offensive player, but a catcher needs to be good at defense too, and he is not

Man, I am not saying I wouldn't love to have him on my team, I am just saying to call him the greatest is blasphemous! Don't forget if Piazza wasn't a friend of Tommy Lasorda's, you might have never of heard his name!

You are wayyyyyy out of line.

Piazza its not good at throwing out stealers, BUT he calls a good game. Mets pitchers have always referred to him as a great battery mate. Throwing out stealers doesn't make your a better catcher, or maybe you prefer Henry Blanco to Piazza as your starting catcher???

At the same time I think Pudge its the better OVERALL catcher. He can do it all, hit, run, call a good game and of course has a cannon for a arm. So he IS a better catcher than Piazza. But I still think your over reacting about how good or bad of catcher Mike is.

Oh and your not the only one who thinks Mike should be a 1st basemen. I think this would happen after this upcomming season or on the 2005 season.

Out of line, whatever, he is a defensive liability which is exactly what you DON'T want your catcher to be! I bet he would be a great first baseman, even a gold glover, something he will never see as a catcher
