              I absolutely HATE the "calls a good game" thing. That is so bogus.

              It doesn't matter if you call a great game if they pitcher is serving fat ones over the middle of the plate. I guess Greg Maddux has just lucked out and had catchers who always seem to call the right pitches.

              Pudge has never had a Greg Maddux to call pitches for.

                  Calling a good game is still a major deal. Your pitcher has a big influence of what will happen though.

                      I agree with you to an extent. I'm sure that there are better "gamecallers" than others out there, probably mainly due to experience. I do agree that pitching talent and ability is mainly responsible for making the catcher look "good" or "bad".

                          Blanco is a phenominal defender. He came up with the Dodgers as a 3B. When I played against him in Rookie Ball he had gone nearly a season without an error. When the Dodgers moved him to catcher I knew he would be in the Big Leagues.
