Re: What a joke Soriano better than Ichiro !

    a VERY good topic

but what i think GEORGE needs to do is look beyond his own passion & see what might be best for the LEAGUE as a whole

dynasty's can be VERY BORING..especially baseball....i know some yankee fans who don't really start watching until july cuz they already know they're in the playoffs.

baseball really is in financial trouble...fans in KC..will not spend 75 on a team that can not finish higher than 3rd..they just won't.

myabe contarction is the only way to go for baseball....10 teams in each league
Bummed that you're not on my ignore list yet?.....Don't worry, I'm sure you will be very soon.

they really just need like a 100 million dollar salary cap. (not possible, but it would help a little bit). Have some type of limit, so teams can't quadruple other teams payrolls.

Listen I'm a Yankee fan, but the other teams have just is much money argument is pathetic. George spends money because of the revenue the Yankees get. He doesn't just spend all his pocket money on them Yes other owners are rich, but if they put lots of money into there team they are gonna lose money.

That said, the Yankees aren't the only team that can spend lots of money. The Mets play in the same market, the Red Sox are in a big market. So are the Chicago teams and the Dodgers. So there are quite a few teams who have almost an unlimited payroll like them, they just don't spend there money wisely, and there are a couple of teams who don't spend money they should be spending

In my opinion, they just don't have the same passion for winning that Steinbrenner has. And it's not the yankees fault if that is the case. They don't care so the team suffers. Maybe fans of these teams should be more upset with their owners than the yankees.

Your oversimplfying the problem. First of all the cable deal or who ever really owns them now, provides a revenue stream that no team can match. Its not about not having passion for winning. It's about not losing 10's of millions of dollars every year and going bankrupt like some of the NHL teams are doing now. Even teams with deep, deep pocket books that spend a ton (Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs) are about 50 million dollars below the Yankees payroll. Any way you cut it thats not competetive balance, and it's not good for baseball. And it's one of the big reasons for declining attendance at a lot of ball parks throughout the country. When you have teams that have no shot at winning, or keeping their talent no one wants to go see them play.

the Yankees revenues got to where they are b/c of the money spent by George.

the other teams that make more money than George do not spend money and instead pocket it all.

then we have fans complain that the Yanks make far too much money a year. but these same fans never follow the track that the yanks had to follow to get there. 15 years ago, the Yanks were not making anything close to the cash they make now.

you gotta spend money to make money.

You honestly think that the Yankees are spending all there money wisely. If they were, the payroll wouldn't be anywhere near 165 million. Other teams can't deal with 60 million in bad contracts like they can. NOT saying its impossible to be competitive look at what Billy Beane does, give him 100 million dollar payroll and you will see some scary things. I wouldn't say that the Yankees spending money developed the reveunes that they are making now. Kansas City, Cinncinati etc aren't going to be New York in 15 years by spending money.

Yes you do have to spend to make money. But the Expos, Twins, Devil Rays, Royals, etc. could win 5 world series, there still not gonna get a whole lot of interest. Look at the A's, there good, but they can't sell out games. They aren't making much money.

oh well I agree. you obviously need a strong market behind you. The Yankees are favored by playin in New York, that's an obvious.

But my point is that 15 years ago, the Yanks were pathetic. They had little fans and their only real star was Don Mattingly. They had nothing. No one wanted to play there. But they started signing a couple of leaders. Got lucky by drafting a number of players that would become strong role players on a team, etc.

A lot of the Yanks success is based on luck. But it is supported by intelligence. Yes, they have more money to play with, but other teams still do not spend the cash they CAN spend. I'd bet Milwaukee won't spend a dime in revenue sharing this season. they havent the past couple of years.

                                Who's fault is that?
