Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

That is exactly what the Sim slider is for. I don't understand how it is pre-determined, you guess fastball and the guy seams a 2-0 fastball down the pipe and you hit it out b/c you guessed it was coming and you were able to turn on it, how is that predetermined?

This game is totally tweakable, it will play how YOU want it to play. The gameplay is still the best out there!
The graphics are finally next gen, the animations are totally upgraded, and it is still a great game IMO. I am not a nitpicky graphics whore and I am sure some people will not like HH, but I am keeping it b/c it provides the type of baseball game I want.

The nice thing this year is that there should be a baseball game to suit everyones' preference. The worst thing anyone can do is to pass on a game b/c of something they read on these or other boards.

I never pass on a game that easily. Also never said I was going to pass on HH..rather rent first.
HH has always been programmed with realistic stats in mind at the expense of user input. It's great that they have included a slider for "sim" reasons. However if I want less realistic stats so that my input would be used more, HH would not be the game of first choice. The HH stat realism is what mainly sells it imo. In any case there will be a game for everyone this year.

I've only had "the bug" once on a deep fly to center. I've played about fifteen games, but I hate crap like this. I loved high heat last year. This year's game is just irritating. The franchise free agent mode, there is absolutely NO negotiating at all. You make an offer...all the other teams make an offer simultaneously and he picks one. WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST COPY MADDEN? Everybody loves that type of system. This way, you have no idea if you're going to get someone or not, you can't go over your cap WITH OFFERS. You can only offer within your budget! Whereas, in Madden when you go over the cap you just don't have enough money to sign 'em. That's tolerable, but this run counting bug has me waiting for WSB. A "great sim" doesn't change the rules of baseball. I used to love high heat, not anymore. Once again, 3DO is about 90% on target with their game. The offseason in HH really sucks. I can't stand it!!! I know, I'm repeating myself but I'm just pissed. Has anyone else found it damn near impossible to record an out on a grounder to first? It takes an hour for the first baseman to stop, turn and throw. And sometimes, he has to get to the bag himself, 'cause they don't have the pitcher or 2B covering. I thought this would be the year that HH finally reached it's whole potential. I was wrong. It's just an unsatisfying game. Maybe if I complain to 3DO they'll give me a refund. Yeah right. 3DO...customer service? No way. I'm so disappointed it's unbelievable. I really wanted to love this game too. Has anyone else noticed that there's never any need for a fifth starter? Ever. You can go the whole season with only four, no matter how many games you play. I dunno, it's just disappointing.

Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

Skyboxer, you're right, there is a good crop of baseball games this year, something for everyone. I wish I had the patience to rent, would save me a lot of $$$!

Pitchingcoach, I respect your opinion, but this is 3DO we are talking about, did you expect a totally new game, rebuilt from the ground up? In my opinion, this is a true upgrade from last year, a lot like last years, but I went in knowing what to expect, and knowing who I was buying from. You have the receipt or an Ebay account, I suggest you use them if you are this unhappy about the game. I for one appreciate the game for what it is, an excellent baseball sim from a poor *** company who did the best with what they have. And I don't want to hear from anyone about what is missing that they promised in the interview, b/c if you listen to that s**t, it is your own fault. I will believe any interview after a game is on shelves.

And I will still buy WSB and maybe MVP, and I would love for one of those to be the best out there. I want the best baseball game out there, I don't care who makes it, or who likes it, or who flames it, as long as I like it!

I agree it has probably the best results of all time but not gameplay. Game-Play. In HH the player input has limited effects on outcomes/stats. Great game though.

I've seen this statement posted so many times, and I just don't agree with it. If I swing way too early on a changeup from a good fastball pitcher and strikeout with the bases loaded (which is exactly what I did with Pujols last night when the game was on the line in the 8th inning), how is it that I didn't affect the outcome? When I did wait on a curveball in the 9th and JD Drew hit it out for a 2 run homerun (and the fact that I aimed my bat for an inside pitch, which it was), again didn't I affect the outcome of the game? Or when I leave my tired starter in to face Sosa with 2 on and 2 out because my bullpen is a little ragged and my pitcher is up first in the next inning, and I try to paint the corner, but he misses his spot and leaves one for Sosa to crank out of the park, how again was that not my fault?

Some people apparently have a different opinion, but I've played many, many games of HH and when I win or lose it feels to me like I have played a big role (particularly when I lose, it's usually because I totally failed to execute on offense or defense). Even the little things, like when I send my runner with a good contact hitter and end up with first and third as I pull one through the hole. It sure feels to me like I'm doing it.

                  I am loving this game.

the "formula," affects what happens after the result of YOUR effort. If you hit a ball perfectly with Nomar, it's gonna go farther than if you hit a ball well with Lou Merloni.
That's how it should be. YOUR actions still control the outcome of the game, based on who is up. That my friends, is full control and realism blended together.

HH veterens know what I'm talking about. AGAIN, I'm not saying you don't control how the player swings etc.. What happens is you might hit the ball solid but based on stats the outcome will either be a hit or a shot right to someone for an out. If Nomar is hitting way above his normal average then then the game "adjusts" itself eventually to even things out even though you have played the same way all year. This is a vague example but one none the less. That's what keeps the stats realistic. Anyway I'm done explaining this. As long as you enjoy the game then fine, that's what matters.

I agree Cardinalfreak, I actually feel like I contributed to a win or loss in HH. I don't feel like I just pushed X to swing and try and time a pitch. Using the Guess Pitch makes you work the count, draw walks, and wait on your pitch. For instance, I had Adam Dunn up and chose curve ball, and sure enough Clement from the Cubs hung a curve belt high and I aimed exactly where the pitch was, and Dunn totally crushed it to right-center. That is why this game is great, you feel rewarded for being patient. IMO this game is baseball, as real as it gets as far as video games go!

I think the team at 3DO did a great job this year.

I agree Cardinalfreak, I actually feel like I contributed to a win or loss in HH. I don't feel like I just pushed X to swing and try and time a pitch. Using the Guess Pitch makes you work the count, draw walks, and wait on your pitch.
