Re: High Heat Sightings and First Impressions here...

I have never even played HH until last year, when I got it for my PC. I thought it was a pretty good game, but a little buggy (but that's probably due to my inferior PC or graphics card). However, as everyone knows the gameplay is solid and that is why I bought HH2004 for my new playstation.

After playing about 10 games so far, I have to say that HH2004 is an awesome game. While I was initially not thrilled with the menu interface or the out of date rosters, the game totally won me over with the GREAT gameplay, solid graphics and player editor features. Also, I was thrilled I was able to tweak the game with sliders to fit my level and style of play. Currently, I and my beloved O's are in 4th place with a 4-6 record, but I am loving it. There are no outlandish stats like 30 hits per game or no walks. It is very realistic and though it plays like a sim, you can always move the slider down for a more arcade type feel.

There are a few minor complaints, as no baseball game is perfect. Of course I mentioned the rosters are out of date, and there are players missing like BJ Surhoff and Kevin Millar. They should definitely include a download updated rosters for future versions. Afterall PS2 now is internet ready. Also, I noticed that if you make a change to a real player (even if you just change his number or stance), he loses his picture. That stinks.

Also, baserunning is pretty hard to master. I keep getting picked off! I hope I am just going through the learning process, and maybe I will get better. But I've been picked off over 15 times! Any advice for me? Should I change the baserunning sliders?

The graphics, while good, could be much better. Lots of players seem to look alike and there are only a few really unique stances. Tony Bastita's looks a little off... Also, the fans in the stands look totally fake and lifeless.

But the major elements of this game are impressive. I am addicted to playing it and seeing how my O's do the rest of the year. I am starting to worry that it is so addictive that I will neglect studying and finding a good summer job. Hehe. Anyway, I defitiely recommend it and give it a 9.1.

By the way I still have not encountered the 3rd base 2 out bug, but will keep looking. My guess is that it exists but it is very rare.

I agree it has probably the best results of all time but not gameplay. Game-Play. In HH the player input has limited effects on outcomes/stats. Great game though.

I've had everything but a chopper....
as for the input, if you dont' swing at the right time or the right direction, you won't get good contact......how much more control do you want?

The variety is better than in the past, more line drives and foul balls. Don't think I have seen any true high hoppers, maybe a couple that were more like topped ground balls.

Overall the game is great to play, (I have not encountered the Bug) so the gameplay is tight, animatios way improved, but could be better.

The stats are for lack of a better term "Predetermined" to some extent. That is why HH gets the results, stat wise, that they do. I'm not saying that you don't control swinging etc... What I am saying is for a good part of the game it does not matter about the users talent. The results are driven by CPU to receive accurate/realistic stats.
Still, HH has been a very good sim series. The best at accurate results.

That is exactly what the Sim slider is for. I don't understand how it is pre-determined, you guess fastball and the guy seams a 2-0 fastball down the pipe and you hit it out b/c you guessed it was coming and you were able to turn on it, how is that predetermined?

This game is totally tweakable, it will play how YOU want it to play. The gameplay is still the best out there!
The graphics are finally next gen, the animations are totally upgraded, and it is still a great game IMO. I am not a nitpicky graphics whore and I am sure some people will not like HH, but I am keeping it b/c it provides the type of baseball game I want.

The nice thing this year is that there should be a baseball game to suit everyones' preference. The worst thing anyone can do is to pass on a game b/c of something they read on these or other boards.
