    A-Rod to Opt Out

Does this really surprise anyone? I wonder what teams truly have a shot to sign him?

I don't want Rodriguez in S.F. personally, but good God, anything to get Feliz out of that position!

Good for him. Why stay in a place where the fans didn't want you?

      Make history elsewhere...just don't expect $30 million a year.

He's not getting the money the Yankees were ready to offer him.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

What a spineless toad. He literally has Scott Boras's hand up his butt.

Boras-Rod are even bigger turds for announcing this during the World Series. F 'em!

During game 4 of the World Series, what a douche

Let's see if the Yankees stick to their guns

Wasn't it known he was gonna opt out anyway? I mean, how else was he gonna get the new offer?

The Yankees were going to offer him a contract extension. If he opted out of the contract the Yankees said they weren't going to go after him, because they lose the money that Texas paid for his contract.

He could have signed an extension with the Yankees, but it was pretty much assumed he was going to opt out.

Pretty much. He probably would have gotten a nice extension though.

Oh well.... let the bidding begin. Winter meetings will be another rumor mess this year.

I say good for him. While it'll be the fans that have to suffer the enormous hole we now have in our lineup, it'll be the media that'll be begging for him back when we're scoring 4 runs per game next season.

Let's see if the Yanks actually stand their ground and stick to what they said theyd do. If I was the front office I'd go back on my word and probably still try to resign him, but thatd probably piss of Posada and Rivera to no end that theyre making another exception for A-Rod yet wouildnt for them.

I'll say Cubs, Marlins, or the Giants.

Ownership issues aside, I would say the Cubs. It'd be interesting to see if A-Rod takes a lower salary to be able to play for the man he says is like a surrogate father to him... Plus I'm sure he'd salivate at the thought of playing 81 games in Wrigley Field every year. I think the Angels might have an interest in him as well... But like another poster said, I don't think he's gonna get the same money the Yanks were getting ready to throw his way.

I doubt he would even resign with them if they went back on their word and pursued him. They planned to offer him an extension of $30+ million per year and he didn't even negotiate with them so it's clear he didn't plan on coming back to New York.
