    Re: A-Rod to Opt Out

I doubt the Yankees go after him at all.

I mean, if he came back to them in a month and said he decided he wants to be a Yankee, and he was going to sign for a contract that wasn't ridiculous, than yea, they would talk.

But that's not going to happen. I don't see the Yankees getting in a bidding war, and A-Rod didn't even want to listen to what the Yankees had to say before making this decision.

I don't hate the guy, it was great watching him play everyday the last 4 years.

    But this does suck.

Didn't Varitek have a problem with him, too? It may not have been any verbal stuff in the media, but I seem to remember the two of them having a heated moment.

For the first time in ages our pitching will be better than our offense next year, I'm looking forward to it. If Girardi is the new manager (which all signs point to) I think he can really rally this team and play the underdog role (imagine that) for the first time since '96.

Varitek pretty much cleared the air between them if I remember correctly following the incident saying it was just one of those moments and that he thinks hes a great player. Schilling an Millar just continually killed him year-round.

              Re: A-Rod to Opt Out

              1. The Yankees will DEFINITELY NOT pursue ARod now that he has opted out. His opting out basically tells the Yankees he didn't want to return.

              2. I was one of the BIGGEST ARod supporters in NY (I live in NY) and I CONSTANTLY got into arguments with others over how they shouldn't boo ARod even if he struggles in the postseason because he is still the best player on the planet. However, I take back ALL that crap, good riddance, jackass.

              3. I hope he realizes that the Yankees have a $75 million advantage in payroll on ANY other team in the league. Good luck getting $30 million/ year for 7 years without the Yankees.

              4. Apparently Boras is looking for a $400 million offer. $40 million/ 10 YEARS? Babe Effing Ruth isn't worth that kinda money, friend. Dream on, Alex, dream on!

              5. I will say this, with all the extra money the Yanks will have, they better look for some pitching now, maybe a Johan?

LOL, maybe now the Yanks' managerial choices are having second thoughts... "Oh yeah, Don/Joe, we're potentially subtracting almost 80 HRs and 200 RBIs from this current crop in A-Rod and Abreu.... Still want the job?"

                  1. Soriano LF
                  2. DeRosa 2B
                  3. A-Rod SS
                  4. Lee 1B
                  5. Ramirez 3B
                  6. Floyd RF (Theriot will probably be there against lefties)
                  7. Soto C
                  8. Pie/Jones CF ( I think Jones finally gets dealt this offseason)
But strategically, you would want Lee to bat before Rodriguez. You don't want a home run followed by a single, you want it the other way around. Furthermore, those two runs could come in the first inning every game. Not saying they are that stellar at their specialties, but that's how you want to look at it.

And then if Lee hits it out anyway, there you go.

I say screw him if he does go through with opting out. The Yankees are better off using that money to sign someone worthwhile and strengthen their pitching rotation and bullpen. What a bum..I really dont care if the Sox sign him either. If he does i would love to see how the players on the Sox as well as the fans react.

No they aren't. There is no one available who can really strength their rotation, and they have plenty of money to pay for relievers anyway.

People can try and sugercoat this if they want, but this is going to hurt.

Well there was that rumor going around of trading Wang, Cabrera, and Kennedy for Santana. I doubt the Twins would do that though since they need some power for their lineups, not more pitching.

Maybe we'll get lucky and tomorrow morning we'll find out that the police found A-Rod tied up in Boras's basement and foced to opt out against his will. That way we get out #4 hitter back, Boras goes to jail, the economy of baseball is saved, and all is good again.

Yeah but you could also look at it the same way guys like Tony Larussa looks at it and put him in a spot where he will always come to the plate in the first inning. The way Larussa does with Pujols. Either way having A-Rod in you offense is pretty good anywhere he hits.

Now if we can just get him to Chicago.
