I think it's pretty much A-Rod and Lowell so far as FA 3B go. Crisp does need to be moved this winter though and I could see him being packaged with a prospect somewhere for either a 3B or a 1B. Youkilis despite his awesome defensive season at first could go back to third and I'm sure someone could be found to play first in his place. Finding first basemen isn't nearly as hard.

As a Sox fan, if they do by chance sign A-Rod, wouldnt you think they would put him at Short since, with all due respect, Lugo isnt the greatest?

The other free agents besides Lowell at 3rd base are *gulp* Mike Lamb and Pedro Feliz.

Looks like it's going to have to be Betemit at 3rd unless the Yankees can make a trade. I don't think they have anyone in the farm system that can take over at 3rd either. The only one I can think of is Eric Duncan, but he is horrible.

The problem is what do you do with Lugo? The Sox have a lot of money but I doubt they can re-sign Lowell, sign A-Rod and ship out Lugo while still paying a good chunk of his salary a la Renteria.

I honestly think Betemit is going to be our starting 3B next year, I don't see us trading for Cabrera because the asking price will be much too high. And there is no chance Duncan is going to be productive at the MLB level.

The other trade candidates I've heard thrown out there are Joe Crede and Adrian Beltre. I'm not sure what it would take to grab either of them, but I don't see Crede as much of an improvement over Betemit. There's also the possibility of moving Cano over to 3rd and signing someone like Luis Castillo or Iguchi to play 2nd.

No respect needed, Lugo blows. I know it, you know, and the Sox might know it but they're probably going to be stubborn and will bank on him pulling out of his career decline next year. Off the top of my head, one thing I would worry about quite a bit is A-Rod making some early season errors as he readjusts to his old position. He'll obviously be a controversial signing and it could just fuel a potential fire if he has a rough start. If they were able to magically make Lugo disappear, move Youkilis back to third, plop A-Rod at shortstop, and find a good first baseman they would have a monstrous lineup. That's probably a pipe dream though.

Cano at 3B, hmmm, that'd be interesting. He's got a great arm but pretty poor range and doesn't seem to judge balls all that well off the bat, not exactly a good recipe for 3B.

Beltre would be a huge mistake, that's something we would do five years ago.

I don't think they re-sign Lowell in that scenario. Really, get a good look at him in the parade because unless he decides he doesn't want to press for the best possible contract he is somewhere else next year.

btw.. anyone catch Hank's statement to A-Rod? wow.. as much as they messed up with Torre, he basically told A-Rod to go shove it... (had it on ESPN yesterday)..

I dunno how I feel about the Yanks burning bridges with everyone. I understand winning is important and the Yankees are a business, but whatever you do needs to be done with class.

Yeah, i agree with you. He might need some time to readjust but that would be one sick lineup!!

The Giants would be a great fit for A-ROD! They have the money and he's the perfect replacement for Bonds. Since Giants mgmt only cares about filling the seats I can totally see them going after him.
