    Re: A-Rod to Opt Out

I don't think the confusion occurred before he opted out.

I thought I read, in another article, that Alex was surprised to hear that the Yankees weren't interested in talking to him AFTER he opted out. And Boras told Alex, before he opted out, that things would be ok. Once he discovered that Hank had no intention of talking to him, Alex said it hurt him because he felt that Boras had lied to him.

That's when he started with getting in contact with Yankee brass. He wanted to find out if Hank's comments were true. That of course started negotiations.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Nope, he said in his conference call today that he opted out because he was under the impression the Yankees didn't want him back, which I guess means that he's saying Boras misled him and told him the Yankees weren't interested.

      From Yankees.com

He opted out because he didn't think the Yankees wanted him -- despite multiple reports during the World Series that the team requested and was denied an opportunity to negotiate a contract extension. Whether that was the fault of Rodriguez or Boras might never be clear, but its effects certainly were.
