New York Times - The words and deeds of Scott Boras over the past week had other agents saying they wouldn’t mind if the owners engaged in collusion against Alex Rodriguez, which is a pretty severe reaction from people whose clients were victims of the owners’ collusion in the mid-1980s.

By opting out of the last three years and $91 million of his 10-year, $252 million contract, Rodriguez, as Boras has pointed out, was exercising the right granted him in the contract that Boras negotiated with the Texas Rangers in December 2000, and the one the Yankees acquired four years ago.

It's funny but not a good idea.

Actually, executives wouldn't have to even consider collusion if they just used their brains.

There aren't many teams that could afford Alex's previous contract. There are even less that can afford his new contract demands.

If they want to outbid themselves then the team that pulls a Hicks deserves to be stuck in mediocricy for the next 12 years.

If I'm a competing GM I offer Alex $90 million over 6 years with a 7th year $10 million Player Option driving the potential contact to $100 million over 7 years. If he says no I throw in a no trade and call it a day.

Any GM that offers more than $20 million a year on the first offer deserves to be tied down by Boras and made his b*tch.

Doesn't make sense. Agents should be hoping that teams bid high on him. It helps out for other players who begin to move into stardom territories. They can begin to move players into the $20Million neighborhood more often than not.

Agents can talk about this stuff and act like they care but they all know that executives will continue to meet their demands.

It's win-win for them. Lets say we hate Boras (like pretty much everyone else does) and owners will want to talk to our clients instead. We know they'll pay up the butt for our guys so who cares what we think?

I just found it funny in a personal sense. I equate the Boras hate right now to the hating on the Patriots. All the agents are jealous of him right now. They are just stewing that he has these ideas first. Believe me, most of those agents would do the exact same things as Boras if given the opportunity and idea.

What I found really jacked up was this:

2 draft picks actually. A first round pick from whatever team signs him (the top 15 picks in the draft are protected though) and then a sandwich pick that falls in between the 1st and 2nd rounds.

I guess this is the right place.

The "C" word is now being bandied about in regards to A-Rod. Yep, Boras and the Players Union are worried that owners are colluding against A-Rod. A part of me has to agree to a certain extent. The last contract of 20 mil per year or more was given out in 2000. So already you see owners being a little more responsible about the money. Then you have the issue of Boras himself. Let's face it, Boras is Public Enemy #1 and what's the best way to get back at him? Simple, don't fall for his shenanigans by being lukewarm or outright saying no to A-Rod this offseason. One last thing, investing all that money into a guy that at times doesn't seem human and can be a bit flaky isn't wise.

Yep, I've a feeling Bud has told the owners to hold off on signing A-Rod and if anyone DOES sign him it's going to be well below the 35 mil per that Boras boasted about. Scott Boras has finally outwitted himself and personally i'm laughing my arse off!

If a team wants him they'll sign him. I really think they are sick of Boras' crap and collectively won't buy into what he's selling.
