I'm a Yankee fan so this is good news to me, but can we really believe what's being said? Would Alex really want to negotiate to come back to NY if it meant he'd have to do it without Boras?

Read his official statement on his website. http://arod.mlb.com/players/rodriguez_alex/index.jsp

Alex is going back. Will be fun to hear all the Yankee fans who originally said "see ya and take a hike"

Oh, dude, just expect it. He'll probably be booed in the first game of the season too.

I'm disappointed but for different reasons. I wanted Alex to play for a fanbase that would appreciate his ability to play and a media that doesn't pick and choose when postseason performance is everything.

If he feels he'll be happy in New York then I welcome him back.

Yeah ill admit that I was pissed at first and was one of those that said "good riddance" but as a fan of the Yankees i cant see how you wouldn't say that. If he comes back then the Yanks will be in great shape and if he decides not to return then oh well..good luck..that Yanks will move on with or without him and still be competitive.

A-Rod can't talk to the Yankees without Boras.

Sweeny Murti reporting that its a done deal.

I dont even know how to react. I've kept pretty much quiet through this whole ordeal mostly because I was both upset about losing his production but excited about a new direction for the team.

In the end his production will make this deal for the best...but a part of me was hoping he'd get few offers and have to end up taking $22 million somewhere just to see the look on his face when he came back to Yankee Stadium.

The deal better not be for any more than $27 a year becaue of the $21 mil we're losing from Texas

I expect the first 2-3 years of the contract to be smaller, then pick up dramatically throughout the years...maybe hitting 30mil. Think thats possible?

Apparently he left $60 million on the table per WFAN.

                        Re: A-Rod to Opt Out

A-Rod did in fact contact the Yankees through a third party. They are talking and working on an agreement.
The talks are ongoing as we speak and both sides are hopeful they can resolve this. Nothing definitive can be reported at this time.
From the Yanks COO, an official statement just read on WFAN.

When asked if Boras was involved he declined to comment.

If the player opts to negotiate a contract without his agent, he can do so. The team just can't prevent the agent from participating if the player wants him there.

The discussions are believed to be centering on a 10-year contract for about $280 million. They are also likely to include incentives that could put the total package well over $300 million.

Yea, that really sounds like he's taking a discount.

If the Yankees get him for the offer they were going to offer, minus the Texas money, great. I wouldn't pay him a penny more though, because he's not going to get it anywhere else.

I think the only way they got to this point was b/c A-Rod reached out to the Yankees. I think Cashman and the Yankees have way to much pride to go after him, especially after they've been saying all along if he opts out they won't negotiate with him.
