    Yea, me too.

It would be good for PR purposes too, after losing Torre and Mattingly, to bring a beloved figure back.

      Re: It's Girardi......

Here's what the coaching staff should look like:
      Pitching: Dave Eiland
      Hitting: Kevin Long
      Bench: Rob Thomson
      Third: Bobby Meachem
      First/Catcher: Tony Pena
      Bullpen: Mike Harkey

Thomson has been with the Yankees for a while where he was the major league field coordinator and in charge of advanced scouting. Meachem and Harkey were with Girardi when he was with the Marlins.

Steve Somers said last night that Girardi had contacted O'Neill about a position on the staff and he was "very interested".

Probably a base coach. I don't know how many guys Girardi will bring with him from his time in Florida.

Imagine O'Neill at third base. Man, he would flip if a runner he waived home got tagged at the plate.

I dunno, O'Neill actually reminds me a bit of Mattingly. It's funny that those two are my two favorite Yankees of all-time and both played with tremendous fire.

Seeing Paul in the booth and after his career I think he's too mellow, similar to Mattingly.

Well, guys always said that he was an awesome teammate. He's even talked about how his passion for being a perfectionist on the field made him out to be a person he really wasn't.

I don't think he's going to flip on a microphone or a statician if he accidentally said Alex Rodriguez won 2 MVPs in 5 years while in NY. He'd just correct himself (Michael Kay would find a way to argue until he's blue that Alex did play 5 years in NY. That's the Kay way).

Put O'Neill on the bench and he'd likely be pretty mellow, I agree. But, if he truly wants to coach we'll see his passion on the bench. He's not going to flip on people - I don't think that's really his style. If he isn't happy with something, though, he'd make sure to express it and teach. I really think Paul has a lot to teach.

To me, Paul O'Neill was the kind of guy that was never naturally gifted as a baseball player. Like Girardi, he had to work hard to be a good player. I always think those are the best coaches.

Stupid, unrelated question, can an active player and manager wear the same number?

Not 100% sure but I don't see why they could. They said Girardi couldn't be 25 cause Giambi has it, but I assume Girardi will switch to 25 after we get the Giambino off the books next winter.

Girardi: Well the Yankees have 26, you know what comes next.
