Re: Bonds Indicted!
I'll ignore you calling me ********.....
Anderson's choice is irrelevant in my point. The prosecution's claim is the issue. The orthodox church burned people @ the stake for claiming the earth wasn't the center of the universe because they thought it was @ the time. Didn't mean it still wasn't a lie. The prosecution claimed they couldn't proceed w/out Anderson's testimony. Obviously, they could. Thus, LIE.
"A lie is a type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement with the intention to deceive, often with the further intention to maintain a secret or reputation, or to avoid punishment."
If you don't know something is incorrect when you say it, you are not telling a lie. It's called being wrong, incorrect, perhaps stupid.Comment

Re: Bonds Indicted!
This isn't about arresting someone. He's been indicted. That's a heck of a lot worse. The United States judicial system doesn't indict someone on a whim. They've been investigating this case for four years. Chances are they have enough hard evidence to convict him or get a plea deal out of him. They have DNA proof he took these drugs, for crying out loud.
Nothing since they are after him for alledgedly lying about him unknowingly taking 'roids. Honestly, this will be tough to prove. I doubt they actually have anything new on him.Comment

Re: Bonds Indicted!
What are you talking about? A federal indictment tends to carry with it the reputation of being serious because the feds tend not to indict unless they really think they can convict. Paraphrasing what one of the fatheads on ESPN said today, you could indict a ham sandwich but the feds wouldn't unless they actually thought they had a real firm case.Comment

Re: Bonds Indicted!
I have a HUGE problem with Bonds on this.
I also have a huge problem with Major League Baseball for fostering this and not doing anything about it during the McGwire/Sosa chase, when you know damn good and well they were aware it was going on.
Baseball is such a joke. Lopsided salary system which basically semi-fixes the league, ignoring steroids, pandering to the likes of Fidel Castro, etc.Comment

If similar revelations had come out in the mid-90's, on the heels of the '94 strike, then yes, I believe baseball's popularity could've taken a serious hit. But MLB's bulletproof now.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Re: Bonds Indicted!
But that's the beauty of it. Revenues and attendance are at all-time highs. Baseball fans have said, "You know what? We know Bonds and a lot of other stars have cheated. And we don't care."

Now that it's at an all time high, its time to clean up the mess they made. It's as simple as that.
Baseball cheated to get ahead, but I'm not upset about it as long as they clean it up for good in the coming years. Baseball is the sport I love, and that's why I'm glad they did what they had to, to survive... I would have been crushed if Baseball had become the NHL.http://flotn.blogspot.com

Re: Bonds Indicted!
Oops. You posted again before you could quit. It seems you have a basic misunderstanding of the word lie. I'll help you out.
"A lie is a type of deception in the form of an untruthful statement with the intention to deceive, often with the further intention to maintain a secret or reputation, or to avoid punishment."
If you don't know something is incorrect when you say it, you are not telling a lie. It's called being wrong, incorrect, perhaps stupid.
2. untruthful - they said he has essential information when he evidently didn't.
3. How could they not know that claim wasn't correct when they are the ones doing the investigating?
The logic is not flawed. You may not be upset w/the feds. You may be glad Bonds is indicted. But you can't deny that the prosecutors lied in court.
And since you like dictionary definitions: "an untrue or inaccurate statement that may or may not be believed true by the speaker"; "something that misleads or deceives"; "to create a false or misleading impression"
What the prosecution did meets your & Webster's definitions.Originally posted by VP Richard M. NixonI always remember that whatever I have done in the past, or may do in the future, Duke University is responsible one way or the other.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't Bonds facing the jail time for perjury and not the steroid use itself?Comment
