Re: Marlins and Tigers talking blockbuster...

Well, Detroit Sports radio has got ahold of it and the general concencus is that you do it if you're the Tigers... however, everyone is afraid that the "Marlins know something that they aren't saying" like (a) Willis' shoulder is jacked or (b) Cabrera's name might be coming up in some papers that are on the way.

That's my point. If they wouldn't trade a spare part like Monroe why would they even consider dealing top talent.

I saw Willis pitch a few games last season and he just doesn't look right. It would be a very risky proposition to trade away two great prospects in return for a rapidly weight gaining 3B and a pitcher who may be damaged goods.

I still wouldn't want him long term. The guy has shown that he can just let himself go. That he's slimming down in hopes of signing a huge long term deal doesn't mean he won't go back on the Mo Vaughn diet soon after inking the thing.

What a waste it would be to have D-Train in the AL. One of the things that make Dontrelle a joy to watch was his hitting. He's even a better hitter than Carlos Zambrano. Miguel Cabrera is a stud, no complaints there. If Detroit goes through with this deal, good job!

I'd rather have Cabrera and Willis but if they're planning on getting rid of them after this year anyway go for it if you can get them to throw an infielder in the mix.

                  I wouldn't part with Maybin.

But usually you can only count on 1/3 of your studs to become studs in baseball. Odds are only one of Maybin and Miller will become great players (if that) and if you can get two young proven players I would do it.

The bigger question is money to me. Can Illitch afford these guys?

I don't see what's so special about Willis. Miller has potential to be a much better pitcher at this point. It's like Dontrelle shows up every other year. Cabrera's a great player, but I think a package involving Maybin, Miller, and other prospects is just too much. If I were the Tigers, I'd ask for Willis to be left out.

Willis went downhill at a rapid rate. In 1 or 2 seasons he went from the marlin's ace to the marlin's "oh god Dontrelle is pitching today" pitcher. GRANTED a move change could suit him well (I mean probably not a world of difference but maybe he needs some new coaches, trainers, teammates, and opponents to motivate him back to his old form).

Cabrera on the other hand, even with bad eating habits, is one of the best pure young hitters in the game now. Now if only someone would put a no Big Mac clause in his contract he could be great
