    Amazing trade for Detroit

Dombrowski is a fantastic GM. That offense is now elite and Willis adds to an already very solid rotation. Even ignoring Kenny Rogers, the top 3 will be Verlander, Bonderman, and Willis. That group can roll with most groups. Hell, Kenny Rogers as a backend starter is a fantastic position for the Tigers and perfect for a guy who is aging and is suffering expectedly from injuries.

    Now that offense is stacked

Granderson, Guillen, Renteria, Maggs, Miggy, Sheff, Pudge, Jones, Polanco

That's as good an offense as there is in the bigs. They don't really have a true prototypical leadoff hitter, but that doesn't really matter. Several guys (Polanco, Renteria, Granderson) would be great #1 or #2 hitters.

The AL is going to be very, very fun. I think Indians, Red Sox, Angels, and Tigers are in a class of their own in that league.

Not the same at all imo. Lowell was a throw in salary dump. Willis would have attracted legit offers from other teams.

Yeah, I'm counting both of those... and conceding CF to Curtis Granderson cause he got hosed out of it last year.

The Tigers have not been in a position to be legitimate contenders in a long time. Baseball only started being relevant in Detroit again in 2006 and i think the Tigers realize they are dealing with a short window to try and win a championship with the core of the team they have right now.

Even though we are getting all those prospects it still makes me sad that we traded Miggy. Even with his weight issues he is still a great player. Its just sad that the Marlins can't find an Owner that is willing to spend money.

Great move by the Tigers. Florida is getting great young talent as well. If that pans out both teams will have won.

Yeah, it will enable Florida to trade them right when they hit their prime for more hit or miss prospects.

I hear ya, it sucks for Marlin fans. Remember it could be worse (look who I like).

Interestingly the Tigers had inquired about Willis a few weeks ago and most likely if Cabrera couldn't net the Marlins a CF in a deal than Willis probably would have been used to acquire Maybin from the Tigers or someone from another team.

I actually wonder if Cabrera is the "throw in" in this deal. The Angels didn't want to give up 4 players for Cabrera, Ned Colletti and the Dodgers did not like the asking price of Kemp, Kershaw and LaRoche.
Maybe to the Marlins this was the best possible deal. Thogh if i were the Marlins i would have asked for Brandon Inge in the deal so they would at least have a Third Baseman coming back in the deal.

I wouldn't say their offense is stacked. There are some legitimate health concerns for some players in there and Renteria's first trek through the AL wasn't a huge success.

Still, getting Cabrera is a huge boost especially if he can keep his weight down and remain at third. I'm not sure what to expect of Willis in the AL but at least he'll be pitching in a pitcher's park and his unusual throwing motion should help him out for the first few months of the season. I still give Cleveland the slight edge in that division, but the Tigers have certainly closed the gap.

Inge is garbage and they would have to pay him money. I bet they either sign Boone again to be the regular 3B, or more likely have Amezaga play it (or move Hanley to 3rd and start Amezaga at SS).

There weren't any "throw ins" in this deal. Florida was planning on dumping both anyway and thought they could nab an extra prospect by shipping both to one team. Detroit fans and the organization don't care who those 4th-6th prospects were, they're thinking World Series right now, but they are basically free players to Florida that might be something.

Wow! I think this is great for the Tigers. The fact that Cabrera and Willis are young and will be cornerstones is a great thing and makes them one of the best teams in the league. Quite frankly, I don't think the Indians and the Yankees are as good as the Tigers and this deal makes the Tigers as good as anybody. Where Santana ends up may change this but I don't think the Yankees pitching right now will be good enough.

Nah, I still think the Tigers are at most equal to the Indians, if we get Bay or Rios, we pull right back ahead imo.

But seriously, I'm just not that high on Willis... he seems to have regressed the past few years and I don't think a move to the hitter happy AL will help him.
