Re: I think I got it. New and improved sliders!!!

Fanatic, I just figured out something:

What team are you using? I am using the Orioles, so my pitching doesn't get the amount of strikeouts that a better team would get. Maybe BOTH of our sliders are right, but for different teams?

All I know is when I put it the BE sliders up that high, the CPU swings at every strike and no balls. I can hardly get 2 strike counts because if they swing and miss the first strike, the hit the second one.

My sliders (for the guy who asked) are as follows (again, I play with the Orioles):

    CPU Pitch 100
    CPU Batting AVG 35
    BE (b) 60
    BE (s) 50
    TS 1
    Steal 60

I play the Fightin Phillies...I have to agree again with you about the BE(S). Although as I wrote before, I'm not sure if I want to move it down to where you have it...yet.

I'm going to try to play a few games with the BE(S) at 80 and the CPU BA at 35-40, and look for tthree things.
        1. The pitch count by my starter at the end of the game
        2. If I go deep in the count often.
        3. How many BB I issued. This might occur if I raise the CPU BA up. But I'm afraid at 40 they will smoke me.

Depending on the results I will change the CPU BE(S) and CPU BA. I like the CPU PA at 95 now because I'm getting more BB from that. If that becomes a problem again I might try to lower it more, but I have to watch out because I don't want to get over 20 hits a game!

To tell you the truth, I am thinking of moving my BE(b) slider up. Maybe about 65-70 will do it...

Millenium...can you tell me why? Since I'm thinking about lowering mine I hope to find some equilibrium point.

I believe that the BE(S) and CPU BA sliders work in conjunction to getting realistic number of Ks, BBs, and pitch counts. I want to leave my BE(B) at 90. Though some may think that it's too high, I have been having satisfactory results with that there.

I believe that our CPU BA is at 35. I like it there. CPU should be getting 4-8 hits per game ON AVERAGE. So there are games where they get 18 and some where they can manage only 2, but the average should be 4-8. And that's what's been happening with the BA at 35.

If I change the BE(S) from 85 to 80. I'll wonder how it would affect that.

I'll play some games each for the following setting:
                1. CPU BA 35 and BE(S) 80
                2. CPU BA 40 and BE(S) 80
                3. CPU BA 37 and BE(S) 80

I'll be looking for number of Ks per game, BBs, pitch counts, runs, and hits by the CPU. I have a feeling that the CPU BA at 37 would be the best spot mainly because they hit everything at 40 and 35 has been getting pretty easy. At 37 I'm guessing that they are a potential threat still, but with the CPU BE(S) at 80 they won't swing at everything. If they do I'll lower the BE(S) slider until I am satisfied. The point is trying to find a balance in pitch counts, BBs, and hits per game without getting an unrealistic number of Ks against the CPU.

Hey, I just finished a game with your sliders, WSBFanatic. Here's my results. I was the Dodgers against the Marlins.

                    FLA-1 5 0
                    LA - 2 7 0

                    Josh Beckett-7 IP, 1 ER, 7 K, 2 BB
                    Brandon Looper- 1 IP, 1 ER, 0 K, 1 BB
Total of 99 pitches with 68 strikes and 31 Balls.

                    Hideo Nomo- 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 K, 2 BB
Carrara and Gagne both pitched an inning each with 0's across the board for them.
Total of 94 pitches with 64 strikes and 30 balls.

Shawn Green hit the game winning homer in the 8th. It was a great game, Imma defenately use these again.

I played another one. I was Dodgers again vs. the Marlins.

                        FLA-7 11 0
                        LA -6 13 0

                        Brad Penny-6IP, 4 ER, 3 K, 2 BB
                        Vladamir Nunez-1.1IP, 2 ER, 1 K, o BB
                        Brandon Looper-2/3IP, all 0's
                        Tim Spooneybarger-1 IP, 0ER, 1 K, 0 BB (Save)
Total of 111 pitches. 79 Strikes and 32 balls.

                        Kaz Ishii-5IP, 4 ER, 6 K, 1 BB
                        Darren Dreifort- 2IP, all 0's
                        Paul Quantrill-1 IP, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB
                        Paul Shuey-1IP, 1 ER, 1 K, o BB
Total of 96 pitches. 70 strikes and 26 balls.

Game Summary-Kaz Ishii was roughed up early in the first giving up four runs on four hits, capped by a 3 Run Homer by Derick Lee. He settled down after that allowing just 3 hits in the next 4 innings.

The Dodgers responded quickly in the bottom of the 1st when Fred McGriff hit a 2 run homer to slice the lead in half.

The game saw scattered hits, but it remained 4-2 until the 7th when the Dodgers exploded on Nunez for 3 runs, 1 which was Penny's man. 5-4 Dodgers.

In the top of the 8th, Paul Quantrill allowed a single, followed by a 2 un homer from Mike Lowell. 6-5 Marlins.

The Dodgers got the score tied when Joe Thurston came up to pinch hit and drove in the tying run with a base hit.

In the top of the 9th, I was dumb enough to bring Shuey in instead of Gagne and pinch hitter Brian Banks hit a solo HR which was eventually the ball game.

Great game, great sliders. Good work.

How are you guys getting anything to hit with the PA at 100? I set my PA slider at 85. I played against the Tigers and they had their scrub pitcher on the mound. He struck me out 14 times!!!!!!!!
Am I just not at 'that' level yet? I find that if I move the PA slider down a bit I start to hit more. I can't find a happy medium....

Slip...are you using my slider with the CPU PA at 100, MVP? I'm thinking if it's better to have it at 95 in order to get more BBs.

VanillaEpps, it's possible to get the hits at the high of a setting. But I had to start slow. So just go at your own pace and remember to have fun!
