True, but Howard's average is .244, while pujols is .360. Delgado, on the other hand, had a first half average of .216 and has been good for the mets in the 2nd half, but his first half mega-slump probably will effect the voters in the end. I still think pujols or berkman cause berkman has near stats, but .328 avg.

Pujols has a 90 point lead in OPS in the NL while playing superb defense at 1B. It shouldn't even be close.

But what about the stats that mean something?

The Delgado fan in me says he should get the MVP but it's probably going to be Pujols.

Being a Delgado fan or a Mets fan is about the only way a person can make an argument for him over Pujols.

Or a fan of teams playing meaningful games in September (though I think Pujols should win it too.

I don't. That would be in direct contradiction to when I said

and I don't contradict myself because it means one of the statements has to be wrong.

Because the award is voted upon by sportswriters, the majority of whom are hacks. They love a good story and lack common sense. Pujols is clearly the best player in the NL, but unless the Cards sneak into the playoffs, he has just a 50-50 shot of actually winning the MVP.

Pujols will win it, even if the Cards don't make the playoffs. .360 w/ 30 homers and 100 rbi?! That's unheard of

Magglio Ordonez did it last year.

I think Albert wins it. Also Ryan Ludwick will get some votes as well (probably 3rd place votes)

                              If I had a vote:

                              1- Albert Pujols
                              2- Ryan Braun
                              3- Ryan Ludwick

There is no clear cut MVP this year. But I refuse to believe in the Albert Pujols mentality. I know he's the best player. He will be until his mid-30s. That doesn't mean he should win the MVP each and every year.
