Re: AJ Burnett
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
I don't think he's the second coming of Pavano, but no way do I want him signed on for 5 years. I would have been much more comfortable with signing Sheets to a 2 year deal instead.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

other notes
*"you don't know what moose would give u this year"....like...you really can't say that CC will give you 20 W this year (big stage for a big man with a TOn of IP last year)
*"pitchers wins over-rated"....a win is a win...moose won 20 games....the team won those 20 games

Re: AJ Burnett
Can we stop pretending Brian Cashman is a good GM and just a guy with a big checkbook? He tried to go with young guys last year and it blew up in his face, now he guarantees AJ Burnett 5 years. I thought these type of deals were gone now that the old man has stepped down.Comment

Someone said it best on ESPN.
I think it sucks good people are losing their jobs all over the country and yet the Yanks pay 240 million for an overweight pitcher who has never come thru in the clutch and another pitcher who hasn't been healthy his whole career.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: AJ Burnett
Calm down, I am not bashing your "beloved" Yankees, let them overspend for their players.
But when it bites them in the *** because the average joe cant buy their overpriced seats, and corporations they are going to rely on to, are going bankrupt ... don't cry when they should have been more conservative, instead of the kid who cries and wants everything and goes on a desperate shopping spree.
Maybe the portion of the money they cried to the city of NY for, should go back to their own stadium, instead the tax payers who wont be able to afford tickets, has to pay.
Just because you "have" the money, doesnt mean you have to overspend on talent not worth that money.Last edited by EnigmaNemesis; 12-12-2008, 06:22 PM.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

And the only people i've seen saying Sabathia is a bad signing are Red Sox, Indians, and Brewers fans. Re: AJ Burnett
I never said it was a bad signing ... I said it was an overpriced signing. And there are Yankees fans who agree as well.
And I never said they had anything to do with each other... but in the eyes of the average joe, it will disgust them, especially when they wont be able to afford the tickets to the stadium their taxes paid for, and to see record money like that tossed around while they have to wonder if they can put food on the table this winter.
But I wouldnt expect Yankees fans to think outside the box on that one, I am saying this as a baseball fan, nothing to do with the damn Red Sox or anything.
If it was the Red Sox who did this, I would say the same crap.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: AJ Burnett
Let's see. Yankees need Pitching. Yankees shave almost 90 Million off PAYROLL. Yankees sign 2 Pitchers. Add about 40 million to this years payroll in Pitching with those signings.
I am I missing something because it seems like the sky is falling due to these moves?Comment

Cashman has had a very poor track record when it comes to signing arms, no doubt. I still like his idea of going with the young arms but two in the rotation at the same time was a big mistake. Has he overpaid? Sure. But all he did was he just took Giambi, Abreu, Pavano, Pettitte and spun them into CC and Burnett. I'll take that any day of the week.Comment

Re: AJ Burnett
That's the only thing that I shake my head at. How in the world could there be any justification for public financing for the new Yankee Stadium? What were they going to do, move the franchise to Vegas?Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. “If the stadium is going to pay off, they’re going to need a competitive, compelling team,” said Andrew Zimbalist, a professor of economics at Smith College who is an expert in baseball finance. “The Yankees are caught in a vise: they have a massive investment, the largest ever made by one team in a stadium in professional sports.”Comment
