Just seems like Carl Pavano part deux... Sign a pitcher who was great against you, then watch him fall apart.

Okay, its time for Aub's bad signing checklist!

      1) Does this player stop you from acquiring other players? No
      2) Does this player take away a position from a more deserving player? No
      3) Will this player be so useless by the end of his contract that he will just be taking up a roster spot? No

In conclusion, this isn't a bad signing.

Osufan its not risky for us though, I would agree with you if it was the case for him to be our ace, and everything was riding on him. But he will be in a 3 to 4 slot less workload for him and not much pressure. It was very valuable pickup for my Bronx Bombers. and if he does injure himself thats the way the cookie crumbles, but I have optimism for him especially after having a career year in 08. Coming down the stretch last year there wasn't alot of better pitchers then Mr Burnett.

I never said it was risky, however it has a fairly reasonable chance of being a complete waste of money if he can't stay on the field, ala Carl Pavano.

C'mon dawg Pavano went 4 and 2 with us last year it was all worth it No but really you can't put Burnett in the same boat as Pavano. Pavano had that one great year and unfortunately Cashman went for it. If you look at Burnett he has a very consistent record unlike Pavano who just had that one damn year, all of his others were mediocre at best.

                  Re: AJ Burnett

I think Burnett will stay mostly healthy BUT the guy just doesn't have the mental makeup for NYC. When things got rough for him in Toronto he would sulk and sometimes not talk to the media and when things were really going bad he'd implode on the field. The media pressure got to him a lot at times. Toronto doesn't have the same size media exposure but the Toronto media is just as concentrated as the NY media. Now that Burnett is going to NYC the magnitude and scope of everything he does will be much bigger and there'll be tenfold times more pressure on him.

He better pray that he isn't in a slump when/if C.C. Sabathia is slumping or things are going to get very ugly for him. Other then that though Burnett is a pretty cool guy he did get a bit of an unfair rap in Toronto but some of it was very much deserved. I wish him luck in NYC (not too much though)

Fair enough, but I mean it more in the sense of that the Jays signed Frank Thomas knowing that by 2009 he would probably be completely washed up, and as such had to cut him in order to not pay him $10 mil this year. While Burnett will be 36 when the contract expires, there's no reason to think that his skill set will have completely deteriorated.

Ah I see, you're saying he won't be too old by the end of the contract, gotcha.

Atlanta is a very weird pro sports town, even when the pro teams are doing pretty well they still have trouble selling out the stadiums. The only pro franchise in Atlanta that seems to not fluctuate too much in terms of attendance are the Falcons.

Or when he gets booed for the first time in Yankee stadium. That should be fun. Didn't he tip his cap last time?
