Re: ALFONSO SORIANO: Is He The Most Complete Player in MLB?

But his below-average defense is what makes him not as complete a player as some other players. Would I like him on my team?.. Of course I would. But as far as completeness, there are other players. Don't forget about Vlad, guys...

A lot of strikeouts doesn't mean he's not a good player, either. I may be wrong, but doesn't Reggie Jackson hold the record for strikeouts?

most complete player? lol IMO he isn't close at all. He is going to strike out 150 times while walking like 20 times which is plain pathetic esp when he is the leadoff hitter. ICHIRO had more intentional walks than soriano had total walks last year how pathetic is that? Soriano is 1 of the worst defensive 2Bs in baseball right now.

A complete player would be arod, pujols, bonds, etc..

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

Wow, maybe Soriano should just hangup the pinstripes and call it quits...

Despite his below-average defense, he is one of the AL`s triple crown threats. In what, his third season?
And Ichiro, for all his walks has how many HRs despite the fact that he`s not too much bigger than the stick-figure Soriano?

      <hr /></blockquote><font class="post">

i dont think anyone is saying he is bad.....

im sure not at his age and what he showed last year his career could be on pace to macth jeff kent, joe morgan , ryan sandberg , robbie alomar etc

of course he has plenty of time to improve his strikeout ratios and most likely will

he does need to improve on defense to some degree

but all that aside the original topic was comparing him to AROD as the best player in baseball...and that simply is not true at this point in time

that would be like saying AROD will break HANK ARRONS RECORD

sure he is on pace for his age but as ken griffey jr has proven things can go bad at anytime

AROD is at this point in his career a direct comparison to say a mickey mantle at this age....and it could already be argued he is amoung the best shortstops ever and in some ways already the best

soriano on the other hand is about 6 seasons behind AROD in what he has acomplished

and guys like BONDS ,HELTON among many others have earned there REPUTATIONS

SORIANO is still a diaper dandy so to speak

BASEBALL has and always will be a TIME HONORED TRADITION

Re: ALFONSO SORIANO: Is He The Most Complete Player in MLB?

Soriano the most complete player? hmm I think not. If you want a complete player look at a guy like Andruw Jones who is one of, if not the best CF in the game. His offensive numbers are pretty good, not earth shattering but complete players don't need eye popping numbers just very consistent numbers.

For those of you that say Soriano and Vlad (ppl say this about him too) should be more patient and look for walks often overlook the fact that these guys would SUFFER if they were patient at the plate. The majority of their hits are off of balls that are out of the strike zone. To go and make them patient would rob them of getting the kind of hits that they've traditionally gotten. In affect their avgs and power numbers would be significantly cut down.

Right, Sportsman. I read an article last year about Frank Robinson doesn't want to mess with Vlad at all. He's too afraid he's gonna break his swing and whatever else he does to get those hits. Strikeouts don't matter as much when you can produce like that.

Re: ALFONSO SORIANO: Is He The Most Complete Player in MLB?

I think if your able to hit 40 bombs, have 120+ rbis steal 40-50 bases and have as many extra base hits as Soriano, people are going to look past his BB's to K ratio. Like Vlad he has incredible plate coverage, and is a tremendous bad ball hitter. Take that away and he might not be as effective. Sure he's a leadoff hitter, but only because the Yanks don't have a legit leadoff hitter and have plenty of other big bats to hit down in the order. I'd take Soriaon on my team anyday.

That being said, because of his defense he's not the most complete player in baseball. I don't see anyone who does more things that AROD. Guy is a Gold Glove type SS, on top of being a devestating hitter. Who ever said Soriano is an average defensive 2b, needs to open their eyes. He's still below average. Has above average range, but poor hands and misplays alot of routine groundballs. He does turn the double play better this year than he has in the past but he still leaves something to be desired there too. He's probably better suited to play LF.

Soriano is still pretty young and is only in his 3rd year in the bigs. It's scary to think how good this guy could become if he continues to develop at this rate.

There are few players I'd rather have than him on my team. As there are very few players that can do what he can do offensively including the likes of Helton and Ichiro.

The most complete player no. But maybe some day in the future. He's still a top tier player, who if he continues to play like this can be considered one of the few elite players in the league.

andrew jones? lol he is too damn streaky to be a complete player. He is either hitting .200 or hitting .400. His fielding is great but thats it. sure he hits 30-40 hrs a year but he is too streaky.

I can't believe that I forgot to mention for most complete player vladdy. Vladimir is just plain amazing but only downside is his defense needs a bit work with the great arm even tho his arm is too wild at times.
