if soriano can acquire gold glove calibur D then i would give him recognition as the most complete player.

but right now its definately a-rod.

and pauley.. im not gonna argue.. but i think most of the "stories" we hear from grandparents are a bit stretched.they always remember the good old days better.

Its not only from elders we know, but from books written by people who played against and knew these ballplayers, and if it was stretched out a little bit, wouldnt that be said publicly about these writings. My father got to see all these players, and i trust my father wouldnt exagerate about things he saw...My father was at the game in Yankee Stadium when Mantle hit the facade hanging from the roof... I know this cause he still has the stub from his ticket.... maybe some stories are exagerated like the Ruth calling his shot in the 32 series... some say it was a gesture towards the pitcher, but who knows.

But Sori has 0 errors this season.... we're more than 15 games into the season, plus he didnt have one since last august or september... hes getting better very fast, and thanks to Willie Randolph who was one of the best fielding 2B's ever to play

Re: ALFONSO SORIANO: Is He The Most Complete Player in MLB?

A-rod is 27, fastest player to 300 home runs, has gone 40-40, has won a batting title, has had over 200 hits 3 times, should have won 2 MVP's, and if he stays healthy will break the home run record(I'd put money on it), and will more than likely win 5 or so Gold gloves. If in 5-10 years your still not saying he is the best SS of all time I'll be surprised. Honus Wagner is still the best SS of all time as of right now. Just give A-rod time. What else can Alex do? seriously, that would make him better than Banks? He's going to do everything possible eventually.

I don't even like the guy. He was my favorite player when he was sitting behind Luis Sujo, only used as a pinch runner, batting 9th in the order every 7 games or so. Than he turns down 20 million and world series championship(more than likely), for 25 million and a crappy team. The guy is very very good, but I still boo when he comes back to Seattle.

In his first 2 full seasons, Soriano hit 57 homers.... in ARods first 2 full seasons, he hit 59.... the only thing Soriano dont have going against AROD umbers wise, his his age.. hes 4 years less in the MLB than AROD, and only 3 years younger.. But Soriano has the bat speed that could give him the upper edge, especially against fastball pitchers. Soriano jumps on first pitches, not because hes anxious or impatient, but because hes an awesome fast ball hitter.. ARod is just very hard to get out, because hes smart about working the count in his favor. Plus playing in Arllington half of his games dont hurt either... Soriano has alot more room at Yankee Stadium, that he has to get the ball out of... 399 ft to left center field... Thats no joke to hit a ball out over there, where a majority of his homers go..

ya, and who played in the worst hitters park in 1999,and 2000 and still hit 42,and 41 home runs?(more than soriano has ever hit) Yankees stadium is a great hitters park anyways.

Pauly AROD still put up big power numbers hitting in Safeco. Not exactly a hitter friendly environment.

I haven't been following the thread, is Pauly trying to argue that he is more complete than A-rod or something? at this point in their careers A-rod is decent amount better than Soriano. Personally I think A-rod is trying to save his body for the Homerun record, why else would he stop stealing. He still has 40+ steals in him a year, I think it's smart. At ths point that is the ONLY thing Soriano has on A-rod. I believe A-rod would put up the same exact numbers if he played in Yankees stadium. Soriano is one of the better players in the leauge but Alex is EASILY the best in the league, by a decent margin.
