"Idiots" like Dusty Baker and Charlie Manuel. In the playoffs.

"Geniuses" like Mike Scoicsia and Joe Torre. Watching it on TV.

          @ Mr. Franchise

          That sums it up.....
We talk REAL baseball, not to get stuff twisted and/or confused with personal feelings, hearsay, talk radio, video games, etc.

I mean...did Scoicsia and Torre just get stupid and/or motivated all of a sudden? Of course not.....

You have allllll of these folks who opine 24/7--most times being off-base and most times factually challenged. They like to play manager...talking about what THEY would do. Ha! Yeah right...it's easy to second guess and act like ya know...

When you talk to the players, and they tell you they LOVE players' managers (Baker and Manuel)...then bottom line, NOTHING else matters...

              Joe Torre is a genius?

              That's news to me...

As for Scoicsia, he got saddled with a bad team this year, and a manager usually cannot overcome bad talent.

Anyway, what is with these idiots saying that Halladay's no hitter is better than Don Larsen's perfect game? I mean...it's a no hitter vs a perfect game, there is no way that the no hitter is a better performance.

I even heard Greenberg say that Jack Morris' 10 inning shutout in game 7 was better than Larsen's perfect game.

              Just a bunch of morons.

It ain't better...but it's close. That game in itself is easily top 5 in playoff history.

Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins doesn’t hold back his feelings about last year’s American League Cy Young Award voting.

“I thought that was ridiculous,” Jenkins said of Seattle’s Felix Hernandez winning the award despite a 13-12 record. “He didn’t help his ballclub at all. CC Sabathia helped his team get into the playoffs. He (Hernandez) was almost a .500 pitcher. The voting’s been really, really ridiculous.”

Hmmm...Fergie was "almost" a .500 pitcher for his career (58 wins over .500 for a 19 year career). I guess he didn't help his team. I'll notify the HOF for him...

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a Yankees fan, and I still wouldn't have agreed with CC winning the Cy Young. There is no way anyone can say Felix didn't help his team. If anything, his record indicates that his team didn't help him.

Given how historically awful the Mariners offense was last season he's fortunate he managed to win as many games as he did. They had arguably the worst offense of the modern era (1930+).

Good one! Maybe he was thinking that if the voting were done today he'd probably lose out in '71:

Jenkins had his best season in 1971, playing in the All-Star Game, finishing seventh in MVP voting and winning the National League Cy Young Award. He did this despite the fact New York Mets pitcher Tom Seaver had a higher winning percentage, fewer losses, fewer hits allowed per nine innings, more strikeouts, more strikeouts per nine innings, more shutouts, and a lower earned run average than did Jenkins. It is generally conceded that Jenkins's accolades for 1971 (arguably Seaver's best season) were in recognition of his amazing pitching performances of the previous four seasons
                            Hmmmm.....

I'm gonna go ahead and dust off this thread. I grabbed the Star Trib's baseball preview section for some bedtime reading, and the headline I first opened to said "Take your UZR..." Uh oh. Sure enough, Patrick Reusse slapped me right in the face with this:

Awesome. Fregosi's line about "I can watch a player for 3 days" and tell you if he has range or not. This is what I don't get...people who say stuff like this clearly haven't read up on UZR. The folks who calculate UZR account for EVERY play the player made/didn't make during a season. Not just 3 days worth. Oh well.
