Wasn't a spur of the moment thing, either - he said the exact same thing earlier in the week against the Cubs, too.

I would like to add Steve Phillips to this as well.

He says that when Manny returns, the Dodgers should start Juan Pierre over Andre Ethier in right field.

It would be funny if Torre does indeed do that? Are you gonna call him out in this thread too?

You kidding? The GM in him should state the incredible trade value one of those outfielders has for the deadline so they can pick up another starter.

If it were Phillips, he'd throw in a top prospect too (you know, just for kicks) and ask for a fifth starter in return.

I will. The numbers don't lie, Andre Ethier is a beast when Manny hits behind him. And Torre better not think of benching Matt Kemp.

Columbia Pictures has dropped the ball on “Moneyball,” the Steven Soderbergh-directed Brad Pitt starrer that was supposed to begin production on Monday in Phoenix.

On Friday, Columbia Pictures topper Amy Pascal placed the picture into “limited turnaround,” giving the filmmaker the chance to set it up at another studio, with Warner Bros. and Paramount the prime targets.

The move came after Pascal read a rewrite that Soderbergh did to Steven Zaillian's script and found it very different from the earlier scripts she championed. Pascal was uncomfortable enough with how the vision had changed that she applied the brakes.
Soderbergh and Pitt’s CAA reps spent the weekend attempting to get another studio to play ball.

If a new financier doesn’t emerge by today, Columbia will re-examine options that include replacing Soderbergh (and hoping Pitt doesn’t ankle), delaying the film until Pascal and the filmmaker find themselves in synch on the script or pulling the plug.

They movie gets dropped because a studio executive didn't understand the concept and was uncomfortable with something new. The amount of irony is beyond astounding. I don't even have a word for it.

                      he did.

but in his defense, it is a real question for Torre....and he brought up the fact that the clubhouse might be invested in Pierre, respect-wise. I mean, there are 4 OFers and 3 spots...there is a reason Pierre was on the bench to begin with, but those reasons didn't expect this performance.

Phillips might be a goof, but Torre has three options...Play him, Bench him, Trade him. And that is all he was pointing out.

Joe Morgan corrects himself on air...

Jon [Miller], I want to correct something that I said last week - you weren't here so you weren't involved - but last week we were talking about Don Wilson pitching a no-hitter and I remember talking to him about Hank Aaron and saying it wouldn't be the worst thing if he walked him. And he said "get away" and he went out and struck him out. Well it happened in the dugout, not on the field. I got it mixed up with an incident I had with Al Hollins, who in a similar situation was pitching with me at the Giants, so I had the two confused.

...but wait! Al Hollins (really Al Holland) was a relief pitcher and started 11 games in his career - 10 for those Giants that Morgan is talking about in his statement.

However, thanks to modern baseball and the creation of game logs, it appears that the closest Holland came to throwing a no-hitter would have been giving up a Johnny Bench homerun in the fifth inning.

                        D'oh!

So, Joe Morgan corrects his lie by telling another one. Great job there, Joe.
