    You got WHO for HIM??

I start this thread with full knowledge that hindsight is 20/20. It is not meant to point out how bad certain trades may have been.

I just thought it would be kind of fun to see how some of the better players got traded to teams they are on now.

    For the A's:

Aaron Harang: Most people don't remember when Harang was bouncing in between AAA and being the A's fifth starter. He was eventually traded along with another minor leaguer for Randy Velarde in 2000. Yes, a win now trade for the A's, but if they had kept him for a few more years, we see what may have happend.

Carlos Pena: After trading away Gerald Laird and Ryan Ludwick to get him, they sent him AND Jeremy Bonderman to the Tigers as part of a 3 way deal to get Ted Lilly for 1 season (I think).

Andre Ethier: Drafted by the A's in 2003, Ethier was traded to the Dodger in 2005 for troubled Milton Bradley. Another win now move for the A's.

Rich Harden: Traded to the Cubs last year for Matt Murton (Since traded for nothing), Corey Patterson (hasn't found a role with the A's despite many opportunities), and Sean Gallagher (just traded to the Padres for Scott Hairston).

I'm sure there are many more for the A's, these are some of the more recent ones that popped in my head.

Jermaine Dye: Traded from the Royals to the Rockies for Neifi Perez (There was more involved but that's who the Royals got out of the deal).

EDIT: I just realized you wanted it to deal with the teams they are on now, sorry. It's such a horrible trade it's the first thing I thought of when seeing the title.

Dye never played for the Rockies...

In a three-way deal: Kansas City Royals traded Jermaine Dye to the Oakland Athletics. Oakland traded Mario Encarnacion, Jose Ortiz and Todd Belitz to the Colorado Rockies. Colorado traded Neifi Perez to Kansas City.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Giants: Traded Armando Rios and Ryan Vogelsong to Pittsburgh
Pirates: Traded Jason Schmidt and John Vander Wal to San Francisco

EDIT: Also didn't know it was for trades now. But as you can see, that's the best I could come up with. I could also do the Foppert/Torrealba for Winn trade, but Winn has fallen off of the map considerably since the first half year we had him.

Re: You got WHO for HIM??

Jason Bartlett, SS, Rays: Back in 2002, the Padres decided after drafting Khalil Greene that Jason Bartlett was expendable. He was hitting only .250 with an OBP of .329, but had a 24 stolen bases in Lake Elsinore (Advanced-A) before he was traded to the Twins for OF Brian Buchanan. Buchanan had a good 2002 season and a decent 2003 before fading off in 2004. While the Twins have since parted ways with Bartlett, the only remnant of this trade for the Padres is the modified wall down the right field foul line. Buchanan fell over the wall in foul territory during one of the exhibition games at PETCO Park in 2004. The Padres quickly raised the height of the wall.

Xavier Nady, 1B/OF, Yankees: If you want a perfect example of a mishandled prospect, Nady is your guy. After Phil Nevin injured his shoulder diving in left field, Nady was "slated" to be the guy in left. He started off well, but after a couple of months, Nady just couldn't buy any playing time. In 2004, he was again on the roster, but mismanagement saw catcher Miguel Ojeda playing in the outfield instead of Nady. Nady never saw consistent playing time and never had a chance to work out of a funk, as a result, the Padres decided to send him to the New York Mets for CF Mike Cameron in 2006. The trade worked out well for two seasons for the Padres, as Mike solidified CF for a couple of years. Nady was traded to Pittsburgh where he eventually put a up a 2008 season that everyone in San Diego thought he was capable of. The Pirates then turned him around to the Yankees, where he now resides on the disabled list.

Jason Bay, LF, Red Sox, and Oliver Perez, SP, Mets: You can make a case for how lopsided this trade turned out to be. With PETCO Park opening next season, the Padres turned their attention to acquiring a hometown talent to push the opening of their new stadium after an injury-plagued season for then Padres stars Nevin and Ryan Klesko. While some in San Diego wanted the Padres to go after either outfielders Vladimir Guerrero or Gary Sheffield, the Padres decided instead to make a move in July instead of waiting. The Padres talked with the Pirates for LF Brian Giles and C Jason Kendall. Trade talks would spill past the trading deadline until both sides settled on a Giles for Bay and Perez trade. Giles has had a couple of decent seasons, but not exactly at the level the Padres had hoped for when they made the deal. Jason Bay went on to win the 2004 ROTY, beating Padres SS Khalil Greene, and become an all-star caliber player. Oliver Perez has been very mediocre except for one exceptional season. A third player that the Pirates received, Cory Stewart, failed to make it to the big leagues. Rumors have it that the Pirates asked for Jake Peavy and Xavier Nady.

Jose Ceda, RP, Marlins (Minors): In 2006, the Padres traded Sean Burroughs, their starting third basemen for the past four seasons, to the Rays for DeWon Brazelton. This began the carousal at third base, where the Padres would try out Vinny Castilla (acquired from the Nationals for Brian Lawrence), Mark Bellhorn, Geoff Blum, and Russell Branyan. The Padres finished the season with a platoon of Branyan and Todd Walker. The Padres acquired Walker from the Cubs for Ceda (who the Cubs traded to the Marlins for Kevin Gregg).

Nah, it doesn't have to be trades now.

I myself included the Pena to the Tigers.

i was just looking for what big names your team has given up over the years. Who they are with now doesn't really matter.

                    Mark Teixeira to Atlanta

Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Beau Jones, and Neftali Feliz to Texas.

Atlanta trades the best young SS in the Majors, a switch hitting catcher, and 3 great pitchers, just so you can get a guy for 1 full year?

I guess Jose Ceda shouldn't count. But I have a gut feeling that he'll turn out to be good.

That makes up for the Rangers trading away Adrian Gonzalez and Chris Young for one year of Adam bEaton and Aki.

I wouldn't have cared if it was just Adrian, but they had to put Chris Young in the deal

I don't remember who was for who, so I'll just combine these two.

Shin Soo Choo and Asdrubal Cabrera for Ben Broussard and Eduardo Perez.

Well, if it's any consolation, Chris Young hasn't been the same since getting an Albert Pujols liner in the face and Adrian Gonzalez is hitting .250 on the season, not to mention trying to change the home run derby into the line drive derby to right field derby.

By the way, eventually the Padres will trade away Adrian Gonzalez. They won't get close to what the Rangers got for Mark Teixeira.
