Atlanta trades the best young SS in the Majors, a switch hitting catcher, and 3 great pitchers, just so you can get a guy for 1 full year?

Salty has been a disappointment so far. Harrison has been terrible. Jones has been bad in the minors. Andrus and Feliz are very promising, but haven't really proven anything yet.

It might end up being a real bad trade for the Braves, but I wouldn't go that far yet.

As an A's fan... Too many. lol. But I remember Randy Valarde and I remember Harang being an A, I didn't realize it was 9 YEARS AGO! Wow.

I also remember my mom and all her friends had huge crushes on Randy Valarde. haha.

      This is gunna hurt...
Mark McGwire for Traded by Oakland Athletics to St. Louis Cardinals for Eric Ludwick, T.J. Mathews and Blake Stein

      Jose Canseco:
      Really cool story...
August 31, 1992: Texas trades outfielder Ruben Sierra and righthanders Bobby Witt and Jeff Russell to Oakland for outfielder Jose Canseco. Oakland starter Kelly Downs got out of the first inning on August 31, 1992 unscathed, stranding two Orioles on base. A’s right fielder Jose Canseco jogged in to the home dugout, replaced his glove with a batting helmet, and grabbed a bat.
Leadoff hitter Rickey Henderson skied out to left, bringing third baseman Jerry Browne to bat. Canseco replaced Browne in the on-deck circle. But that’s as close as he got to the plate.
As Browne was busy working a Mike Mussina walk, Oakland manager Tony LaRussa called Canseco back to the dugout, following the orders of A’s General Manager Sandy Alderson, who had just agreed to trade the slugger to Texas, for fellow 1992 All-Star outfielder Ruben Sierra, starting pitcher Bobby Witt, and reliever Jeff Russell.
      Ruben Sierra, ugh...

Now I've got a bit of a project on my hands... Discovering all of the A's trade blunders...

Re: You got WHO for HIM??

Those A's moves weren't that bad as the club was trying to win and in most cases got a useful player (group) in return.

It's not like they've traded away any HOFers...

The Cubs got a real steal in the 1981 offseason as they traded light hitting Ivan DeJesus to the Phillies for 5 time All Star and 2 time Gold Glove winner Larry Bowa. The Cubs may have been happy with that alone, however, for good measure and to clinch the deal, the Phillies would 'throw in' an untested infielder named Ryne Sandberg. The trade affected the franchises infields for years as one became solid the other became sour.

Salty isn't having a great year at the plate, but he's really making up for it with his fielding. Harrison was improving greatly before the injury. Jones was just thrown into the trade (idk why). Andrus is in the same boat as Salty, he's had a less than great year at the plate, but has been outstanding at SS. Feliz pitched great in the Futures Game, so I'm hoping he'll end up in Arlington by August.

Harrison, Andrus, and Salty have already shown how good they are (Harrison not so much), but Atlanta was stupid to trade away these guys.

                  Hmm lets see....

                  Now these are all Dodgers.

Dioneer Navarro-Traded him to pick up Mark Hendrickson and Toby Hall. Not a very good move.

Edwin Jackson- He was struggling in LA, but still very young. We traded him to pick up Danny Baez. Horrible.

Pedro Martinez- Traded him for Delino Deshields in 1993. Stupid.

Paul Konerko- Trading him away was really dumb.

Mike Piazza- While Sheiffield did pretty good as a Dodger, I felt like this trade set us back a couple years. Which led to the playoff drought in the late 90s.

                  And for worse ever signing...

                  Andruw Jones-

Can't believe I (and Oakfan) forgot this one for the A's:

Tim Hudson for Charles Thomas (Did nothing and is either rotting in minors or retired), Dan Meyer (highly touted prospect with an upside but plagued by injuries, since has been traded), and Juan Cruz (shortly traded and has been traded several times since, now with KC I believe.)

                        Yankees
Got A-Rod for only Alfonso Soriano and we had him for 4 years at great value as the Rangers paid a lot of his contract.

Got Nick Swisher for Wilson Betemit.

Got Bobby Abreu and Nick Swisher for C.J. Henry who is playing college basketball now and 3 non prospects.

Traded Gary Sheffield for Humberto Sanchez, Kevin Whelan, and Anthony Claggett. Sanchez was highly touted but can't stay healthy. Claggett pitched once this year and has an era of 43.20. We had the choice to either let Sheffield walk, or pick up his option and trade him. Might as well have let him walk.

Gave up Nick Johnson and Juan Rivera for one bad year of Javy Vazquez, who we traded along with Dioneer Navarro for 1 decent and 1 bad year of Randy Johnson, who we then traded for a few bad young pitchers.

Traded Ted Lilly for Jeff Weaver, who we then traded for a washed up Kevin Brown.

Got Paul O'Neil for Roberto Kelly

                          LOL.

                          Reminds me:

The A's gave Swisher up for Ryan Sweeney (struggling this year but I still have hope for him) and Gio Gonzalez who has not done anything in the two years since the A's have acquired him. He is still young though.

12-08-1984 Alfredo Griffin, Dave Collins and cash to Oakland A's for Bill Caudill (UGH)

Knowing that Ricciardi worked for Beane I will throw this out there as a steal for the Jays.

Marco Scutaro for Kristian Bell and Graham Godfrey, neither of which I have heard anything about since the trade.

Yeah, I can thankfully say that in the course of Jays history they've ripped teams off more then they've been ripped off.
