Re: Whats in the bat, Sammy?

He says that he regularly uses a corked bat for batting practice to put on a show for the fans, and that he grabbed the wrong one. To a point, I almost have to believe him because to use a corked bat now days is just stupid. With the amount of broken bats now it doesn't seem like anyone would want to use a corked bat. Although I still find it very interesting, because you would think that he would have it clearly labeled.

And about the illegal hockey sticks, they don't give you as much of an advantage as you may think. Corked bats really make the ball go a lot farther. The illegal hockey sticks really don't do much. I know, either way it's still cheating, but it isn't the same as a corked bat.

I read on a Cubs MB on Cubs.com and they said some guy on Fx Sports Chicago(Otto?) showed that the bat had a C label at the end of it.

I saw this on another Message Board...

"If you watch the replay Sammy never looked toward the broken part of the bat, which tells me he didnt know he was using a corked bat!!!
If he knew he was using a corked bat,the moment it broke his guilt woulda made him look towards the broken part that flew out towards the infield,so I believe hes telling the truth and another thing,he was striking out alot,so how does a corked bat help you, when your striking out?? "

Re: Whats in the bat, Sammy?

Yep they showed the bat and the top of it had a C painted on it, the bat looked pretty beat up too, so I believe he has a corked bat for batting practice, I don't think he did this intentionally it would be kind of stupid to walk to the plate with a bat, that has a hand painted C on the top. Only Sammy knows for sure, i have seen him crack his bat many times and no one every saw anything odd like today.

No doubt the Sammy haters won't care, and he was wrong and he will get suspended, but life will go on as it did for any other hitter or pitcher who got caught doing something illegal.

Also a lot of guys are using maple bats which don't seem to crack very much, it would also seem that if Sosa was corking his bat all the time that something like this would have happened before, like he said all his bats were taken by MLB to be tested if it comes out that it was just this one then it could have been an accident.

I predicted his excuse before he even said it, that's an old excuse from the Billy Hatcher, Greg Nettles days. Besides, it doesn't matter, cuz it's against the rules for a corked bat to even be in a major league dugout.
Gammons and Reynolds are joking about because they're trying to save some integrity to the game, which they should, but it don't make Sosa innocent.

                          Either way..Sammy

If they test all bats and that was the only one i guess i can leave with it..but he still shouldnt have them corked...who's to say that 25% of his home runs he grabs the wrong bat and just doesnt know it...sammy
