It's a sad day in sports when $7.5 million is considered a bargain.

About the Pirates getting Marcus Giles, I think he would be a great pickup for them. So far this year he has been a decent hitter, and he has had some great defensive plays.

      This trade won't happen, IMO.

The Braves aren't going to trade away one of the top 2B's in the league, for a pitcher who is maybe just a hair bit better than Jason Marquis.

Coming from a Braves fan, this doesn't happen. At least I don't see it happening.

                  Re: Giles is simply amazing...

Giles is amazing.... it's a sad state though that he really has no one hitting around him for protection (aside from a recently hot-hitting Aramis Ramirez) so he really doesn't get quality pitches to work with. Giles is normally walked once a game at least. And when he DOES get quality pitches to hit, he brutalizes them. He's got speed, he steals bases, he's got glove... I've seen COUNTLESS diving "Andruw Jones-esque" plays in the outfield, and now this homerun he robbed in the game vs. Cleveland..

In his Cleveland days, he had signs of brilliance, however, there just wasn't room for him there, that's why he was expendable.

I don't like to use "if's" when discussing baseball and it's statistics, because projected really don't forecast properly, but i'll guarantee you this:

IF: a) Giles wasn't hurt for that month
                  b) Reggie Sanders maintained even a little bit of that hot start he had all season so far
                  c) Aramis didn't start off to that sorry-*** start he did... then Gile's numbers this year would be very good looking for fantasy owners and for the Pirates.

I've heard some callers calling into sports radio talk shows talking about Young, Kendall and Giles all be deadbeat bums.. I'm with them on Young and Kendall, but it's beyond me why they'd say Giles. I think just because he's got a heftier salary, he's an automatic scapegoat, that's my guess. So any fellow Pirates fans out there, is there something I don't know? I mean, I only know what I see on the field, and Giles hasn't shown ME any signs of being a bum, I just think he gets a lot of walks, but hey, walks are as good as a hit IMO.

Giles is definitely one of the top 10 outfielders in the game right now.
