Not only was he a long time in development, but he was actually the fourth outfielder for the Indians, and they didn't really need to give him much playing time -- which is the only reason I can see for them trading him away for Ricardo Rincon (one of the great fleecings in recent baseball history)

A friend of mine just told me he had heard on KDKA radio this morning that the Braves and Pirates were possibly discussing a Benson for Marcus Giles swap. The Giles' brothers together? Could it be? Any thoughts?

Well, the Bucs need a second baseman, and Benson hasn't been pitching well of late. Of course, as soon as Benson goes to Atlanta, he'll become a star.

Though I've always thought the future ace of the Pirates was/is Kip Wells, not Benson.

I'm not a Braves fan (what Pirate fan is?), but Leo Mazzone is one of the best pitching coaches in the game. Benson's talent plus Mazzone's tutelage equals a trade that makes sense.

I agree with you on Kip Wells. He's a stud!

It's a sad day in sports when $7.5 million is considered a bargain.

About the Pirates getting Marcus Giles, I think he would be a great pickup for them. So far this year he has been a decent hitter, and he has had some great defensive plays.
