Put Beltre's stats aside, you still have a HoF'er. It was always refreshing to have Beltre be able to make you forget (for a moment anyway) that today's professional baseball is more business than sport. Beltre brought a kid's enthusiasm to the field that was sorely lacking for seemingly an eternity. Thankfully, in no small part because of Beltre, a lot of the guys that came up watching Beltre had some of his spirit rub off on those youths. Pitch clocks and reduced shifting isn't what will save baseball for future generations, it's people like Beltre, playing a game for fun. Now there's a novel idea.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Posada has never been particularly renowned for his defence or game-calling. If he gets in, it'll absolutely be for his hitting (and his association with the Yankees of this era). I'm pretty sure he'll make the HOF somewhere down the road. BTW, are we talking about WILL he or SHOULD he in this thread?

Munson and Mattingly, most under-appreciated Steinbrenner era Yankees (where the HoF is concerned). If Mr. October was the straw that stirs the drink, Munson was the straw that stirred the straw.T-BONE.

Wait, someone's replying to my 2009 takes now? This thread is eating its own tail.
FWIW, I don't feel the same way now. Very much doubt Posada's ever gonna make it.
Frank Thomas will get in easily. Edgar's borderline. Baines won't make it in a million years.
It'll be interesting in about a decade when Ortiz becomes eligible. Rest assured the Boston media (including half of ESPN) will pushing HARD for Big Papi. After all, he's one of the only two clutch hitters in baseball history.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that. Technically you were right when you said Baines won't make it in a million years. He didn't make it in a million years, he made it in 18.T-BONE.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Does Cano stand a chance with his PED suspension? I think he was a lock without it...nearly 70 WAR at 2B, hit for average, power, gg defense, in New York. I'm guessing he'll get the ARod treatment...."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
No cano. Those PEDs hurt him and after he left the Yankees he fell off. That second half of his career is not good.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
I still don't know how DiPoto duped the Mets into that trade? Cano was 35 years old.You want free speech?

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
What about Joe Maddon and Terry Francona? I'm not sure either way about Francona but I'd tend to lean ''IN''. And if Davey Johnson isn't in, I don't know how Maddon is a HoF'er.T-BONE.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Historic win with the Cubs, 2 WS appearances plus being a leader in the analytics revolution at the managerial level. That's solid, but not overwhelming, for me it is probably a no.
Francona has a better case, again, historic win, 2 WS wins, 3 WS appearances plus broke the dam once and for all of bringing your best reliever at any point in the game, for high leverage situations, not necessarily the ninth with Andrew Miller. I wouldn't get on the way of him getting in.OSHA Inspector for the NBA.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Francona yes, Maddon no.
Francona is 13th all-time in manager wins (Maddon is 32nd), and everyone above him is in the Hall (except for Dusty and Bochy, who are going in as soon as they're eligible). Francona's teams made the postseason 11 times to Maddon's 8, and won more when they got there (.564 to .478 winning %).
Also, Maddon's lucky his mishandling of Chapman in G6/7 of the World Series didn't blow up in his face.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
