Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
McGriff going in with a blank hat makes sense.
3x AS and WS with Braves in 5 seasons
Silver slugger with Jays in 5 seasons
All Star with Rays in 5 seasons
All Star and 2x silver slugger with Padres in 3 seasons
If it wasn't the Braves, blank was the way to go.
Rolen went in with the Cards. You could make a case for the Phillies or blank hat too.
3x gold glove, rookie of the year in 7 seasons with Phillies
4x gold glove, 4x all star, 1 world series in 6 years with Cards
Cards obviously his better tenure, but this is why I hate the "blank hat vs team hat" argument for baseball.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Jim Leyland, Lou Piniella, Cito Gaston among names on contemporary ballot.
I hope Cito gets in.
2x WS manager and first African American manager to win a WS. That 2nd part alone should get him in for historic purposes.
And....Joe West somehow is on that ballot too.Last edited by Majingir; 10-20-2023, 08:36 AM.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Leyland made it and Piniella came up one vote shy. I don't know the rules regarding the veteran committee but I hope they get one more review of Piniella and he makes it in next time around.T-BONE.

I have a soft spot for Leyland, so I don't mind it:

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Could be a big class this year.
50 ballots in so far and Mauer, Beltre, Helton seem like they're getting in.
Sheffield and Gary Wagner are right on the cutoff point.
Sheffield I'd imagine goes in with Marlins? And Beltre with Rangers?
When was the last time we had 5 guys voted in by the writers?Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Glad to hear that Leyland made it! It's always a bit bittersweet when someone like Piniella comes up one vote shy. The rules regarding the veteran committee can be intricate, but fingers crossed that Piniella gets another review next time around and secures the well-deserved spot. Here's hoping for a successful reconsideration.Comment
