Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Counting stats are solid but probably not.
Discussed a ton here
Jimmy Rollins has already compiled impressive stats for a shortstop, and has a chance to improve them further over the next few years. It’s not clear whether that will be enough to get him serious consideration for the Hall of Fame.
Of anyone the current Phillies era it's Utley that deserves the hall the most (Unless you count Halladay).PSN: KMRBlue1027

WOULD Utley have gotten there? Probably. But he got to the Show too late. Putting him in HOF talks is like putting Ryan Howard in there. Great players during a relatively short stretch of time.Last edited by 1stpitchhacker; 08-03-2013, 09:19 PM.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
With less than 1,400 hits Utley is nowhere near hall of fame consideration. Both players are roughly the same age.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
IMO, there's something to be said about longevity. Utley's gotta start staying healthy the next couple years. Assuming he does, I think he should get in. High peak, incredible offensive numbers, great fielder, and I like guys that break out late."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
He needs at least more than a COUPLE of healthy years. If he gets to 2,000 hits then we can START to talk.
No one's doubting how great he was for 5 years. But that's the problem. It's only 5 years!
Simply put, would you vote Albert Belle in? Disregard attitude and behaviour because I think that's complete bs (Ty Cobb, Mickey Mantle).Last edited by 1stpitchhacker; 08-03-2013, 10:13 PM.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Utley's a fair question. If he were to retire at the end of this year, then he's a "no" for me.
If he can have 3 more years exactly like the one he's having, then I'd probably vote "yes".
That projection would give him 275 HRs ~ 1000 RBIs, ~1800 hits, nearly 400 doubles, a bWAR of about 75--not too shabby for 2B.
He's shown up in the playoffs too with an insane 2009 performance in the World Series against the Yankees (though the Yankees won) and very nice NLCS (2008), and NLDS showings (2009, 2011). He's also been on a WS champ team (duh).
He's already the 130th best player (EDIT: among position players) in terms of bWAR all-time, which is saying something given how abbreviated his career has been.
Of course there are gold gloves and silver sluggers too, if those mean anything to you.
So, it's an interesting case to consider.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment
