It's really weird to see what happened to Andruw, I don't think I've ever seen a player fall off that quickly, maybe Juan Gonzalez. But, I always wondered about steroids with him. Especially that monster year, hitting 51 I believe. But his body type really never changed, that guy was always smiling, every moment they put the camera on him, he had this big infectious smile on.

I don't think he gets in, but that glove though.

No. I'll be amazed if Alou gets 5% of the BBWAA vote.
I know but the reason I was asking him is if you compare Alou's numbers with Ordonez's, Alou's are actually slightly better. So if he isn't close (and I agree he isn't) then Ordonez shouldn't be either. I just don't see how Magglio's numbers warrant anything close to serious consideration.

I agree, that's a very good comparison, Alou had more power, Magg's was a better fielder if I remember right. But both are very similar. I was comparing that to the lowest standard. Jim Rice. If he's in, it open's the door more, for better of for worse for fringe candidates.

Based on the Jim Rice Standard. These guys have a chance. The Alou's, and Magg's of the world. But of course they don't compare to the ultimate standard; The Ruth's May's Williams's. That's what I'm saying. Otherwise these guys are all destined to the Hall of very good, and that's really where they should be (Rice included.)

I think Rice is a special case, though. His induction was one of the last gasps of old-schoolers who "know better". (Jack Morris will probably get in with their dying breath.) Their total lack of support for Bernie Williams (a True Yankee!) implies that they have little interest in electing "modern" players with similar numbers to Rice. A good chunk of the BBWAA probably hasn't watched a baseball game in 20 years.

I think I know what happened to Andruw Jones, he applied the cream too, the sour cream.

Definitely disappointing if he doesn't get in. I always assumed that his Gold Club Trial testimony would put him over the top.

I almost think his glove gets him in. But, I'm skeptical.

Andruw isn't a PED case...he's a cheeseburger case. When he was young with the Braves they talked about how he loved American fast food. I hated that he had developed such bad habits and you could see the weight coming on fast.

The other aspect is I believe the body only has so many miles in it...Andruw came up at 19 and played 170+ games a year for nearly 10 years and it took it's toll.

IMO, Andruw is a HOF'r, but it will take a while. He is on par with Brooks Robinson for his defensive contributions (only Brooks and he have a DWAR of 40% of their total for guys with more than 60 WAR). While he probably deserves to get in, the truth is that Andruw was a wasted talent who should have taken care of himself and made it a no doubt case.

Definitely, it's an injustice he's not. 10th place all time in wrc. and a .374 woba. Really can't see how he was overlooked. All those sb's. Why BBWA? Why?

Peak years came while playing in Montreal; cocaine use; didn't hit "magic numbers"; overshadowed by Rickey Henderson. Take your pick.

Happily, Rock (my favourite player growing up) will be in Cooperstown someday. His voting percentage has gone from 23 to 30 to 38 to 49 to 52 since 2009, and he's got a lot of support amongst the younger sabermetric crowd. Raines still has 9 years of eligibility left; he'll make it.

Where do I start? A career OBP of .402, his WOBA .406!, A WRC of 145. 612 big flies, and a player that is presumably clean, never been linked to anything, except playing in the steroid era. Thome is a lock.
