    Re: Clemens in AS Game

I have no problem with Clemens being in the game. I just have issues with other guys like Foulke and Hernandez on the team before Tim Hudson and Jason Varitek.

You're right, people weren't complaining as much, but that's because Ripken wasn't an a--hole. Plus he was voted in. Clemens wasn't voted in. If you poled the fans I'd bet my left nut that Zito would win over Clemens, easily.

Again, if this is about career merit, lets get Rickey in there, too. Send some youngen' home in his sted... that's the point, Clemens is REPLACING some more deserving younger player. Personally, a little bit of Clemens goes a long way, and there's been more than a little bit of that jackass the last few years.

Why is Clemens an A-Hole? Because he's competitive and he pitches inside? Does the name Pedro ring a bell? He pitches inside more than anyone in the game, yet no one says anything because he's Pedro. If you're basing your statement on the Piazza incidents, that was a long time ago.

And your Rickey point is ridiculous (I know it was in jest, but). Clemens is actually having a very good year, and a case could be made for him based on merit alone, let alone all the milestones he's reached. I feel bad for Zito, but don't blame Clemens or the Yanks for this one.

And to the person who said Varitek is deserving of a spot, umm, he is on the team already. The biggest mistake was Lance Carter. That is a joke. Huff or Baldelli would have been a much better choice for the Rays. Then Hudson, who isn't going probably due to the fact that he only has 6 wins, could get that spot. But again, the All-Star game has never been about fairness.

It would have been hard for Clemens to be voted in since last time I checked, fans don't vote for the pitchers.

And it doesn't matter how much people don't like him, he's one of the greatest pitchers ever. He deserves it. Bonds isn't liked by everyone, but I'm sure in his last year, even if he is having a bad year (which Clemens BTW isn't) than he will go.

I'm sure most of you weren't complaining this much when Ripken was in the ASG his last year. Clemens is one of the best pitchers ever, he deserves it just as much and maybe more than Ripken.

                              EXACTLY.

If Clemens get to go in, why can't Rickey?

After all, Henderson is the all-time stolen base leader...it would be just as justifiable to have Henderson in the game as it would Clemens.

Clemens is an a-hole, no doubt about it. Yeah, he's one of the greatest pitchers ever...blah. Last time I checked, I never saw Greg Maddux (whom I believe is better) or Curt Schilling approach the game the same way Clemens does. They both play the game the way it needs to be played.

For Clemens to replace Zito is such a shame I won't be watching the game tonight, and I certainly won't ever have any respect for the "great" Roger Clemens.
