And why would I need to do that? Apparently 23 of the 28 voters agree with me and other people on this. having the most second place votes proves that those writers also didn't think Trumbo was worthy of the Rookie of the Year award. If he has a respectable OBP, it improves his other numbers and he ends up winning the ROTY and this discussion would not be happening, end of story and let us all stop talking about a former prospect. Mark Trumbo, Jeremy Hellickson, Eric Hosmer or any other 2011 rookie who is no longer eligible should not be brought up anymore in this thread, unless it's as a comparison to a current prospect, which in this case it is not.

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I'm going to go with Taijuan Walker of the Mariners. The kid is a physical specimen. He's only 19 and throws 98+, and is also listed as our best athlete (includes all positions), on many prospect sites. If this pitching thing doesn't work out (doubtful) he may be able to play CF or SS, that is how good of an athlete he is. I don't think we will see him in the rotation until 2013, but he could see a cup of coffee this year, and if he is lights out in the minors who knows.
Players that could see the field this year with the big club, are James Paxton, Danny Hultzen, and Stephen Pryor. Paxton is a LHP who throws upper 90's, and has solid command, Pryor is 6'-5" throws high 90's and is considered our closer of the future. Hultzen is probably the most well rounded of the bunch, has great command, and throws 92-95, he has a solid shot of breaking camp.
And then there's Jesus Montero, who I still think we gave up too much for, would have prefered just Pineda for Montero straight up, without having to include Campos, but what's done is done. I think Montero has a chance to be a real stud for us this season, splitting time between C and DH. I would expect a line something like .280/.340/.530 with 20 HR's, and 80 RBI. That would be more than respectible for him in this lineup.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I'm going to pimp out a good friend of mine here. RHP Justin Schumer threw 6 innings of no hit ball the other night for the San Jose (High A for the Giants) in his first start of the year.
He's got a lot going against him considering he's a former undrafted Senior sign with very little money invested in him, but he's got great stuff (touches 95 with nasty movement and a decent changeup). He had a little time in AA last year and had a sub-2.00 ERA. Hopefully he has a good year.

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I just looked over the box score and am wondering why they removed him so soon since he had a no-hitter going? They don't seem to have the pitch counts listed in the box score, perhaps that might have been a factor. Also, his team was up 7-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th when he was pulled.Comment

Due to Dustin Moseley's injury, the Padres won't beat around the bush with his replacement. Joe Wieland is on his way up from Tucson and will make his first start this Saturday.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Casey Kelly finally pitching to his potential. He's finally missing bats and getting strikeouts and is off to a terrific start so far in Tucson of all places. Should another a Padres starter go down, he's probably next in line to get the call from the minors.
Jaff Decker continues to walk and disappoint with the bat. Yasmani Grandal was off to a hot-start but suffered a minor injury a couple of days ago. Keyvius Sampson did well in his first AA start and it wouldn't surprise me if after this season he's the Padres top pitching prospect. He's skipping Lake Elsinore (Advanced-A) after spending the whole year in Fort Wayne (Class-A).Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Mariners' prospect update:
James Paxton is dealing in Jackson through his first two starts.
The lefty is 1-0 with an 0.87 ERA in two starts. He's pitched 10.1 innings, given up six hits, struck out 17 and walked one. He has a WHIP of 0.68.
Taijuan Walker was pretty solid in his first start of the season. He went five innings, gave up four hits, two runs, while striking out eight and walking one. He picked up the win and pitches tomorrow.
Danny Hultzen is getting the start tonight for the Generals. His first start was a bit shaky - four innings, four hits, five runs (all earned). He walked three, but stuck out seven. The seven punch outs are the silver lining. It was his first career start, so hopefully he learned from it and will go out tonight and pitch a gem.
Shortstop Nick Franklin is off to a solid start, hitting .321 with a homer and four RBI's through the team's first eight games. He has made three errors.
All four prospects above are BA top 100 guys... All are playing for the Jackson Generals in the Southern League (AA).Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I'm loving what '10 1st rounder Christian Yelich is doing for the Marlins again now in his 2nd season. So far through April .298/.385/.509(BA/OBP/SLG) with 2 HRs(2 Triples as well) 5 RBIs and 6 SBs in Class Advanced-A
Also '11 1st rounder Jose Fernandez is doing well in 5 starts(28.1 Innings) going 3-0, 1.59 ERA .163 BAA, 37Ks to 9BB. One of those starts being a 6 inning no hitter.
Excited about those 2 guys, Yelich reminds me of LoMo but much more athletic. Kyle Skipworth still sucksSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
