He's in AAA Tacoma now. And to have good numbers at High desert which is higher above sea level then Coors field (I believe) is pretty impressive.

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Strasberg is incredible. Even if you ignore the sabermetrics, he hits 100 regularly, his change is low 90's and his freaking curve is high 80's.
Have you ever tried hitting a curve? Well, try hitting a fast curve.
So, yes, you are the only one. The only way he will be stopped is because his motion is God awful and puts so much strain on his arm.Too Old To Game Club

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I just know that High Desert played a game that ended with a score of 28-26 last season. So it's known for being quite hitter friendly.Comment

It's one of the reasons why I've learned to temper any interest with prospects who begin to do well in the CAL League as opposed to the Midwest League or the Texas League.Comment

It is. I would know because that score might have been between the Lake Elsinore Storm and High Desert Mavericks.

Mariners also have a kid by the name of Erasmo Ramirez, who was 11-1, with a 0.51 ERA, 85 K's to go along with 5 BB's. But it was in the VSL, so I don't know how much wieght all that holds, but he is only 19.Last edited by GreenReign86; 07-30-2010, 09:57 PM.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Okay, in all seriousness, the guy is the best pitching prospect of the last fifteen years. Look at the numbers O-F-H posted, it's absolutely insane what he's doing thus far into his career. Strasburg is averaging 12.4 K/9 right now. Why is that so impressive? No other starter in MLB is even averaging 10.
I'm not saying Pineda won't be special but to cast Strasburg aside is pretty absurd.Comment

Anyone who says Strasburg doesn't deserve the hype, or is overrated should have their mother slapped for having such an ignorant child.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
I'm officially going to bump this thread for the 2011 system.
I don't know how much interest most posters here have about the minor leagues, but for fans who know that their team has no chance (i.e. having a platoon at first between a washed-out player and a decent veteran) all they can do is keep counting their eggs before they hatch.
After a disappointing 2010 season for the Padres minor league system, so far some of the top prospects in this organization have gotten off to a very good start. While two weeks is too early to make any assessments, it's nice to the organization get 5 players on the prospect hot sheet over the course of two weeks. While Anthony Rizzo has been doing quite well in AAA, I think the most impressive player so far is Jaff Decker, who's made it twice already. He definitely needs a rebound after some scouts have written him off for struggling in a hitter's league. Speaking of Rizzo, if Hawpe continues to struggle, there's a good chance that he may be called up in a couple of month.
In other team's news, Brett Jackson also has the honors of making the list twice. I remember fondly about Cubs fans already writing him off as another Corey Patterson when he was picked (and until he translates that at the MLB-level, that label probably won't be shaken off), but he's played well.
Let's get the ball rolling here.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Bleh Marlins farm system is down with so many guys in the majors.I''m keeping tabs on a few guys tho.
Kyle Skipworth, made some progress last year and still has time with Buck signed for 3 years but he's been terrible so far however it's his 1st year in AA so we'll see.
Christian Yelich, I really really like what i'm seeing stat wise in A from a guy who was drafted in the 1st last year.
Chad James, former 1st rounder and supposedly our top pitching prospect he's been solid and he's a lefty soo yeah.
Jacob Realmuto, a top HS Catcher from Oklahoma drafted in the 5th round last year I believe. I really like this guy from all the stats and highlights i've seen I think this kid has a lot of potential and will be a good player in the Majors some day.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment
