Chris Tillman just threw a no-hitter and Jake Arrieta has a 1.16 ERA, both at AAA. Win.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Padres 2nd Rounder from this year's draft, Jedd Gyorko, has torn up the Northwest League and might end the year in Fort Wayne, with a .993 OPS.
As previously mentioned in this thread, Simon Castro continues to pitch will in San Antonio. However, a September call-up is unlikely for this season I think.
One last player I'd like to mention is RHP Keyvius Sampson, a 19-year old starting pitcher drafted in the 4th round last season. He has pitched in 5 games, compiling a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings to go with 36 strikeouts to 5 walks.Comment

John Axford - Brewers closer
Played with him a couple years at Notre Dame. I have a lot of respect for him coming back from Tommy John the way he has.
When he was coming back from TJ he looked terrible! I mean he didn't even pitch for us and his velocity was way down. I remember coming in as a freshman I watched him pitch...he was filthy. His breaking ball absolutely fell off the table and he threw really hard.
He was a great guy and...we can all agree his stache is awesome.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Jesus Montero is hitting .420/.532/.740 in July. In the past 2 games he's 8/9 with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, and 3 walks. Hasn't struck out in his last 10 games either.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

He's going to be awesome though, but remember that he is only 20 years old and needs another year in the minors.Comment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
i wish there was a Cubs prospect to pimp...
Starlin Castro? Tyler Colvin? The former might be the team's best MIF, the latter is on the ML squad right now, and playing every bit as well as the vets (save for Fukudome)...though, uh, that ain't saying much.
Geo Soto seems like the most recent in a long line of busts...he obviously has some kind of hole in his swing or something because he hasn't been able to hit since 08 , but no one seems to be doing anything about it. Granted, he was injured for a lot of 09.
Josh Vitters still gets some acclaim, but it is hard to tell what will come of it...Ramirez seems to be locked in at 3rd until 2157A.D., and Vitters isn't even in AA yet...so, yeah.
Baseball America still lists Lee and Ramirez on the corners projected into 2013...I can't imagine anyone hopes that will be the case.
I guess I am not a good pimp.
Especially the Soto being a bust thing. He only won the ROY and this year is hitting .295 right now with like a .420 OBP. Not what I would call a bust. Can't judge off of a sophomore slump.
Cubs have a lot of good prospects. Have you seen our bullpen outside of Howry/Grabow. All those kids are young and making appearances already at the ML level. Cashner throws absolute gas and once he learns to mix his pitches he could become virtually unhittable. He has started to work in a slurve to match that 98-100mph fastball. I cream at the combination of him and Marmol as our 8-9 inning guys.
Castro could be a gold glover, has a cannon arm and has show he can hit at the ML level ALREADY. He is back around .300 now. The potential for this kid is through the roof.
Colvin I think is just going to be a solid corner OF, nothing too special. Decent arm, good pop, not going to hit for average unless he learns to shorten up his swing.
You also forgot about Brett Jackson who is absolutely raking in the minors right now, and could see the majors as soon as next year. Alot of promise in this organization which is a huge turn around from about 4 years ago when Felix Pie was our top prospect.Comment

Kyle Skipworth has improved a lot this year to hopefully show he wont be a bust yet. .257/.323/.473 16 HR 49 RBI he's struck out 111 times tho but you compare those stats to his last 2 years and it's definite improvement.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: The Official Pimp Yo Prospect Thread
Gonna give some love to a guy who will more then likely be called up either after the trade deadline or in September
Catcher J.P. Arencibia
.311 AVG .364 OBP, .650 SLG 29 HR 70 RBI 30 2B and only 72 Ks in 352 ABs
Granted this is the PCL so the numbers are a bit inflated but we've been hearing great things about JP not just hitting wise but from behind the plate as well. Even if for some reason he doesn't come up to the big club this year he's definitely penciled in next year most likely as the #1 catcher and he's only 24!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Michael Piñeda:
Not many peopla are talking about the AL's verson of Stephen Strasberg, and they should be. He is the best pitching prospect in baseball.* Last game for Tacoma, 5 innings, 1 hit, 13 K's, 1 BB, and he has a 2.25 ERA in the minors this year with a 9.75 K/IP, which are simular numbers to what Strasberg put up in the minors. He is 6'-5" 225 lbs and throws 98+ MPH, and is only 21 years old. Felix and Piñeda at the front end of the rotation = lights out, for EVERYBODY. Some scouts have even said that 2-3 years from now some people will be saying Strasberg who? When referring to this kid.

And if only Cory Patterson could've lived up to his hype of being the superstar he was supposed to be.
