Guess Chip doesn't remember 1987 too well because with his misguided logic the Cubs wouldn't have won their last MVP. (Andre Dawson) he was even on a LAST PLACE team.

Sammy Sosa won the MVP in 1998. The Hawk wasn't the last Cubby to win it. The 1998 MVP race is sort of the same situation as this year's MVP. McGwire had more homers, but Sosa took the Cubs to the playoffs and Sosa got the award. Bonds and Pujols have FAIRLY close stats, so you got to give it to the guy who is taking his team somewhere.

      Re: Idiot Chip Caray

If you compare Barry's stats to Pujol's, it gives Bonds the edge (and I can't stand Barry so it's hard for me to say that). Take a look:

      Bonds: .341, 37 HR, 77 RBI, .519 OBP, .751 SLG, 1.270 OPS
      Pujols: .371, 34 HR, 108RBI, .438 OBP, .690 SLG, 1.128 OPS

IMO, the two most important stats on this page are OPS and OBP. These are 2 of the most underrated stats in the game to fans who don't follow stats closely, but they are the most important. BA is very overrated because it doesn't factor in walks, HBP etc... but OBP takes care of that. So by looking at these stats, Bonds is ahead, but Pujols is VERY close.

However, much of this depends on how one determines an MVP and there's much debate regarding this since it isn't clear. Is it the guy most valuable to his team or the guy having the best season? I think there needs to be a clear cut line in determining this or there will always be controversy...

Its as simple is this, if Pujols keeps hitting like his been hitting he should get the MVP how can you not get the MVP and hit 370 40 hrs and over 100 rbis and possibly win the triple crown?

Because RBI's are overrated...It's a team stat that depends solely on who plays in front of you...

He won't even come near the 3ple crown...Wilson will run away with the RBI title and Bonds will catch up in Avg..The gap a few months ago was like 80 points!

Oh... okay, I knew that he was the Braves announcer, but just like 3 days ago I was watching ESPNEWS and they showed the Cubs highlights, and I saw Sosa hit one into the gap, and you can often times faintly hear the announcer... it sounded like SKIP Caray... and this year he has been announcing only about 2/5 of the Braves games, so I thought he was the same guy.
