I'd walk Barry to make the double play more available. Then I'd bring in a lefty to pitch to Giambi and cross my fingers.

Actually, you can't say that. One of the reasons this is very apparent would be how almost all of Ichiro's homeruns in his career have either tied or given the lead to the Mariners. I wonder why that would be? Maybe because he only trys to hit homeruns in very specific situations. I believe Ichiro is more valuable to the Mariners, then Giambi is to the Yankees. I don't even think that can be debated. Now onto who is more valuable on the Mariners. Ichiro is more valuable to the Mariners simply because he comes up big in big situations, and because of his defense. Edgar right now, is arguably the biggest liabilty on the basepaths in the Major leagues.Comment

One thing I've mentioned about Giambi is that he's no Yankee Stadium hitter, so using the stadium advantage in this case isn't fair. But I do agree that Ichiro would easily put up 18 to 20 home-runs if he played in Yankee stadium because he takes advantage of the environment and the situation like no other. And I guarantee almost all would occur in game breaking situations.
As for Edgar being more valuable than Ichiro...Come on KeRplunk, you were supposed to bail AI out on that one. After all, that's what all the Mariner people say, didn't you know that.

Re: Who should win the AL MVP?
The whole Bonds on the Yankees argument really can't be used, because if he played on the Yankees, teams would pitch to him, so his numbers would be alot different(probably better, lol). There's no comparison between the Yankees lineup and the Giants lineup.
As for who should be MVP, in my eyes it'd be...Roy Halladay. I don't know if anyone else mentioned him, but just think of where the Blue Jays would be without him. He's the only pitcher they can rely on keeping the score low, and he's been doing it on 3-4 days rest often. I know he won't win it, because he's a pitcher and plays for a sub-.500 team, but if I were to vote, he would most likely get my vote at this point.
The other guy I'd consider voting for is Ichiro. Yea, I know I'm a Mariners fan so you might think I'm biased, but seriously, without him, the A's would probably be running away with the West. Boone hasn't been consistant at all since the All Star Break, Martinez is a great hitter, but like others said, he's a huge liability on the bases and gives nothing in the field(obviously, lol). Ichiro gets the game rolling for the M's every night, makes spectacular plays in the field, makes great plays on the base paths, and comes up with huge clutch hits.
I remember that M's-Braves game earlier this year on ESPN...Ichiro got an infield single, stole second, stole third, then scored on a Boone sacrifice...he basically manufactured a run all on his own with just speed, and he also scored the M's only two runs that game if I remember right. I know that's just one game, but it shows how valuable he is to the M's.
A case could be made for Giambi to win it, but I think with or without Giambi, the Yankees are a playoff team. I mean, if you can't make the playoffs with a lineup that includes Soriano-Jeter-Williams-Posada-Matsui, and a rotation that includes Clemens-Wells-Mussina-Pettite, AND Rivera shutting things down, something's gotta be wrong, lol.
Close race for the AL MVP...but as of now I'd say Ichiro...Co-Commish of the OS Vets I & II
Vets I | Green Bay Packers(11-6) | Last Game: L 31-6 @ CAR (Wild Card Round)
Vets II | Washington Redskins(13-6) | Last Game: L 37-34 OT @ ATL (NFC Conference Championship)

Another way to show his value. In 2002, Ichiro was better then he ever was in the first half. Hit near .370 if I remember correctly. Edgar was out most of the first half, Boone couldn't hit, and guess what? The Mariners sustained a 3 game lead in the AL West. Ichiro wears down in the second half, stops running, and hits .280, .250 during the most critical month. He looked like a little leaguer at times. Not only did they lose the AL West, the Angels who they swept earlier in the year a couple of times, overtook them. While Ichiro wasn't the only factor in this, he was by far the biggest one. I think this is a pretty clear indicator of how valuable Ichiro is to the Mariners. No knock against Edgar but he has never really been the most important Mariner. Always been either Randy, Griffey, A-rod, Ichiro.Comment

Heck, you can say that about every person, and that still won't make it true.
Kerplunk, since you responded, who you feel is more valuable to Seattle, Ichiro or Edgar?

I think Luis Castillo could hit 30 homers in Yankee Stadium.

I rest my case.

Edgar right now, is arguably the biggest liabilty on the basepaths in the Major leagues.

<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">
That's just killer....
So couple of M's fans(Marwinner, Kerplunk) don't agree, I have no problem with that. Not all share the same view.
