      MLB announces Manny Ramirez is retiring

      Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Manny Ramirez is retiring.Major League Baseball announced the move in a statement on Friday.
      "Major League Baseball recently notified Manny Ramirez of an issue under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," the statement said. "Rather than continue with the process under the Program, Ramirez has informed MLB that he is retiring as an active player. If Ramirez seeks reinstatement in the future, the process under the Drug Program will be completed. MLB will not have any further comment on this matter."

                  His choice was either retire or face a 100 game suspension, and he chose to retire. I'll always have sort of a soft spot for him after 2004, though.

                          Yup. As much as I couldn't stand him, he was a key member of the World Series winning teams.

                                  Just heard this now... would be sad if it was something you could find "on shelves", but he would be really stupid if he was purposely taking a banned substance...knowing its an auto 100 game sit-down.

                                          Well, Desmond was only 2-26 against Spring Training pitching so I wouldn't be so sure...

                                              Yeah, I will have a lot more faith in Damon playing his normal 140+ games if he doesn't have to play in the field that much. He can still play the OF once a week to give someone else a rest too which is a good thing.
