Cubs will officially announce the deal on Friday.

Theo Epstein is President of Baseball Operations and Jed Hoyer is GM

Nice! Don't know much about Hoyer, but that's sounds like a good combo.

Just hope Mcnutt is not part of the compensation. He's not the greatest prospect in the world but he's basically our only Legit SP Pitching Prospect.

Just heard a report here that the Cubs will send prospects, not many. And that the prospects involve are not any of the top 3 in the Cubs system.

I love how the Sox tried to pawn Lackey off on the Cubs.

We have some other pitching prospects, especially if we consider Cashner still a prospect, and Carpenter, too. There is a 98mph-lefty reporting to rookie ball this year, Hayden Simpson or something, out of HS reporting to the farm this spring. A long way off, but still...lefty at 98? that is prospect worthy.

Don't worry. Epstein's buddy Hoyer is planning on taking Lackey of your hands.

Josh Byrnes in the new GM for the Padres. Then again, I'm sure Theo and Byrne are buddies so maybe they'll still take Lackey

                Still don't see it though

If the Red Sox are paying 90-100% of Lackey's salary, I can see it.

Interesting to see Hoyer as the GM in Chicago. I don't know if he fits the whole sabremetric thing as the Padres weren't exactly a SABR type team though he was only there for a couple years.

It's amazing how the front offices of MLB are getting younger and younger now. I guess that means these guys will end up being around in some form for the next 30 years.

                      Re: Epstein to Cubs?

Byrnes might be the new GM, but I bet Hoyer's decision to go to the Cubs was pretty easy because of Jeff Moorad. I won't be surprised if the Padres now sign either Bartlett or Hudson to a Eric Byrnes-type contract.

Just horrible, so we have another incompetant owner who wants to supercede the GM in the decision-making process. And I think Jason Mcleod is on his way to Chicago too.

Any insight on this Hoyer guy? I don't know too much about him but from what I've heard that him and Theo were friends prior. I'd imagine both him and Theo will be working pretty closely going forward.

Same. like to know that as well.. Also Jason McLeod is coming. Who I believe was Hoyer's assistant.

That should be a pretty damn good combination making the decisions for the Cubs. I'll be rooting for them.

As a Cubs fan, I don't see how you can't like the Epstein and Hoyer moves. I'm so glad that Hendry is gone.
