I have a feeling Matheny wouldn't manage all that differently from La Russa minus the eccentricities so I think it's a good hire from a continuity aspect.

LaRussa had 2 years of managing/coaching in the minors before managing in the bigs for 33 seasons. Matheny has zero managing (or even coaching) experience at either the minor league or major league level. Seems bizarre to hire a total neophyte to manage a veteran-laden, win-now team.

It does seem strange but I think the Cards want a guy that won't rock the boat too much and catches are historically far more in tune with the game that I think his learning curve at least from the strategical standpoint won't be that high. It's how he relates and handles the players that will be telling IMO.

And the Marlins offered Ryan Madson a contract. The Yankees of the South?

Wow...he's basically a Dodger for life now barring a trade. I wanted him in Atlanta. Personally I think $20/year for Kemp is a good deal and I applaud the Dodgers for locking him up.

Rumors are if Jose Reyes signs with the Marlins it's more likely that Hanley would move to CF not 3B

Wait, where did the Dodgers get this money from?

Seriously, great move for the Dodgers as he'll be a Dodger for life now.

Ozzie's had to deal with lazy *** Alex Rios for a season and a half I think he can handle Hanley in center.

So while going through bankruptcy, MLB didn't allow the Rangers to spend a few more million to sign Matt Purke. They also didn't allow the Rangers to extend any of their players, and were basically forced to throw Blake Beavan in to offset Cliff Lee's remaining salary, but they allow the Dodgers to spend $160 million?

                              Keep trollin', MLB

Great for the Dodgers. It's good to see star players stay in one place for basically their entire career, but it's odd to see MLB let the Dodgers do this before their ownership deal goes through.

Dodgers also signed Mark Ellis for 2 years 8.75M.
